Kay Wilkie Obituary

Mrs. Kay Wilkie, passed away peacefully but unexpectedly on Saturday May 7, 2011 in St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Libau, Manitoba December 15, 1923, she married William (Bill) Wilkie on September 14, 1946. In her younger years she volunteered with cubs and scouts, perogy fundraisers, and canvassed for various charitable organizations. She enjoyed babysitting her sister's children and granddaughter Anne-Marie. Kay enjoyed accompanying her husband Bill fishing and hunting and bowling with the Prosvita League. She was an avid baseball and hockey fan. Her vegetable gardens were bountiful and her flower gardens were beautiful. Family and close friends cherish her knitted and crocheted items. Kay was an excellent cook who will especially be remembered for her tasty perogies, cabbage rolls, pies, tarts and preserves. She hosted many family dinners and parties which she truly enjoyed. Her home, family, flowers and gardens brought her enjoyment. Kay and Bill traveled extensively including Tarpon Springs, Florida, Jamaica, an Alaskan Cruise and many winters spent in Mexico-San Juan Cosola, Busarias and Puerto Vallarta. Kay will be lovingly remembered by her husband Bill, sons Richard (Susan) Mississauga, Ontario, David (Lorraine) Thunder Bay, grandsons James (Sherbrooke,Quebec) Adam (Streetsville, Ontario) Grant (North Bay) granddaughter Anne-Marie (Sudbury). Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Predeceased by her parents Rosie and Frank Fitkowski, daughter Anne in infancy, sister Anne Saj, brothers Mike, Steve, Ed, Stanley and Freddie Fitkowski. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Broadway United Church (corner of Francis and Broadmore) at 11:00 a.m. with Rev.Scott Gale officiating. Interment in the family plot at Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m in the Blake Funeral Chapel 200 May Street South. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital Foundation, St. Joseph's Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Charity of Your Choice. A tree will be planted in memory of Kay Wilkie in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 10, 2012.
