Ken MacLeod Obituary

November 17, 1953 -July 29, 2012It is with great sadness that the family of Ken MacLeod announces his passing. Born November 17, 1953 in Stornaway, Scotland, Ken came to Port Arthur (Thunder Bay) at the age of 11. He attended Shuniah Public School and Lakeview High school. After graduating Ken took time to travel through Europe and when he returned, he enrolled at Confederation College where he obtained his diploma in Accounting. He was employed by Great Lakes Forest Products, (Resolute) starting out as a Camp Clerk at 507 and then moving on to the Thunder Bay location in the Accounts Payable department.Ken was very close to his family and his Scottish roots. He spent many a summer during his high school years returning to Scotland and spending time with his grandfather up in Carloway, gathering peats and shearing sheep. The first thing Ken did when he met Brenda (Rikkonen) was to take her to his homeland and introduce her to his extended family; grandfather, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.Ken had a number of interests, some of which were travel, music, fishing and photography. He enjoyed sports, watching them, and in his younger days, participating in them. He liked to sail, had been very active in the game of squash and enjoyed a good game of golf, introducing this game to his nephew Kari. He loved his niece Kyla (Rikkonen) and nephew Kari (Rikkonen) immensely and always had an active interest in their welfare. They will miss their "Unc" terribly. Ken applied for and received his Canadian citizenship in July, 1995 and proudly placed a lapel pin of the Canadian flag on his Harris Tweed. Ken enjoyed the Canadian outdoors and had spent a great deal of time at the summer camp he helped build north of Nipigon on Lake Elizabeth. While still a preschooler, Kyla spent a great deal of time with "Unc" and Aunt there.Ken was predeceased by his sister Annie-Margaret, his beloved grandparent's Donald John and Margaret MacArthur, Alick and Annie MacLeod and uncles Donald and John MacArthur. Ken leaves behind his mother Chrissy-Ann, father Ken, brother Don, wife Brenda (Rikkonen) and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in Canada, Scotland and the United States.Ken was a good and honest man. He had fast friends that were friends since childhood and those he had met during his working career. Thank you for all your support and friendship over the years and especially throughout his illness. Your thoughtfulness with your continued visits, phone calls and gifts were greatly appreciated. Thank you too to all those who were so instrumental in Ken's wellbeing and care: Dr. Colquhoun, Dr. Johannes, Dr. Watson, the dedicated staff of the Peritoneal Dialysis Unit, the staff of ICU and 2A, Dr. Mahler, Dr. J.
