Ken Wasky Obituary

November 25, 1947-April 19, 2021
It is with broken hearts and overwhelming sadness that we announce the death of Ken at the age of 73. He left the physical world for an offer he could not resist, a pain free rest. He passed away peacefully, at home, April 19, 2021 surrounded by his loving family, following a brave, defiant fight. Goodbyes hurt the most when the story is not yet finished. Ken accomplished many things during his life. His greatest accomplishment was his family. He married the love of his life and best friend Maureen in 1973. They were happily married for 47 years. They enjoyed winter travels to Texas and summers at Trout Lake. When not travelling or spending time at the lake Ken could be found playing basketball (he stopped playing at age 70 but still joined the guys for a beer), listening to music, going to concerts or playing the guitar. He leaves behind a legacy of love and integrity with his family and all those who knew him. Left behind to cherish his memories are his wife Maureen (nee Crane) and his children Leanna (Dano) Heinzen and Josh. He also leaves behind his cherished grandson Ivan Heinzen. He is survived by his sister Barb (Alan) MacFayden of B.C., brother-in-laws Murray (Sally) Crane and family, Sam Crane and family of Calgary, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his 4 legged companion Sassy. Ken led a good life full of love and laughter. He was fortunate to retire at the age of 51 from his government job. He was an amazing husband and a devoted dad, the best gramps and an awesome uncle and great-uncle. He was an amazing support and advocate for his son Josh and a role model and confident to his daughter Leanna. He was never too busy to offer advice, lend a helping hand or be a shoulder to cry on. There will never be a day that his absence isn't missed. Cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral as per his wishes. We will be having a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers we encourage everyone to pour yourself a drink, put your favorite song on loud and toast this amazing man. A very special thank you to the VON nurses, especially Heather, Jenn and Emily, NP Aaron Medd and Dr. Migay who helped us fulfill his wishes to die at home.

Dear Wasky family,
We were saddened to read about Ken's passing. Tony has many fond memories of golfing and playing basketball with Ken many years ago. Ken was Tony's mentor in golfing in his early days. Hoping that memories of happier times will sustain you during these trying times.

Dear Maureen and family,
Sincere condolences at the passing Ken, your husband and father. You knew how to enjoy your lives together whatever paths and adventures you chose to take. He also became a grandfather. What greater role could one relish in life. May he rest in peace.

Farewell my friend who was more of a brother since our teenage years. You often said "does it matter?" I am letting you know there is pain in knowing you are gone. Love you lots

My deepest sympathy to you Maureen and the family. I only met Ken a few times and he was always so very kind and fun. Especially when we were all at camp that one time. He left a mark on many people, as have you. Hugs to you.
