KENNETH MONGRAIN Obituary

September 9, 1946 - December 12, 2024
Mr. Kenneth Henry "Ken" Mongrain, age 78 years, passed away at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Thursday, December 12, 2024.

Ken was born on September 9, 1946 in Fort Frances and raised in Noranda, Quebec. He worked at INCO Sudbury for many years and moved to Thunder Bay in 1980, beginning a 29 year career at Thunder Bay Transit, retiring in 2009. Ken was a member and past president of ATU Local 966, Thunder Bay Transit.

Ken met his future wife Judith "Judy" Oldale in 1980, married in 1981, and so began a 44 year adventure together.

Ken was predeceased by his parents, Raphael "Ralph" and Pauline (nee Richert) Mongrain; his son Darren Mongrain; sister Rita Keller and brother Lionel Mongrain; nephews Bradley Faragher and Michael Weldon; brothers-in-law Arnold Faragher and Richard Weldon; his in-laws J. Chris and Catherine "Billie" Oldale; and son-in-law Bart Pilato.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Mongrain; daughters Crystal Breakenridge and son-in-law Bob (Edmonton); Lisa Mongrain, and Leanna Mongrain (Sudbury); son James and daughter-in-law April (Sudbury); step-daughter Vanessa Magee, and step-son Chuck Magee (Squamish); sisters Marilyn Faragher (Black Hawk) and Elizabeth Weldon (Kenora); brother-in-law Larry Keller; sister-in-law Valerie Mongrain (Kenora) as well as Ken's 17 wonderful grandchildren and extended family.

A Celebration of Ken's Life will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024 at 2:00pm in the Tiberio Room at the Ramada Airlane Hotel (698 Arthur Street West). Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Kenneth to the Dew Drop Inn would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.

Condolences to Ken´s family and friends. I worked with Ken at Thunder Bay Transit from 1984-1986 and then left for Winnipeg Transit. Ken was a good union president and a pleasure to work with. Rest in peace.
