KEVIN GIRARDIN Obituary

KEVIN GIRARDIN
Kevin Wayne Girardin, aged 59, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2024. He lived the final year of his life with courage and the calm acceptance of a terminal cancer diagnosis. He did not fear death; he is with the Lord.

Kevin was born in Leamington, Ontario on July 22, 1965. He trained as a flooring installer there, becoming an independent contractor in 1988. Kevin participated in a Discipleship Training School and Outreach with Youth With A Mission from January to May of 1989, a significant experience that informed his life. Always a deep thinker, in 1991 Kevin pursued two years of English and Political Science at Western University. While he excelled at his studies, he pragmatically chose to focus on his trade. On May 22, 1993 he married Susan, and in 1994 they moved to Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Throughout his career Kevin developed a highly versatile skillset and performed contract work for various companies. His passion for his work, attention to detail, integrity, and care for customers rapidly earned him a reputation for performing top-quality work under the name KNS Enterprises until 2019. He then worked with RJC Renovations as a renovation carpenter for two years. In 2021, he came on board as a reconstruction foreman with Til-Ka DKI and moved into the role of Project Manager in 2023.

In both his professional and personal life, Kevin enjoyed learning, working with his hands, and crafting intricate work. His hobbies included woodworking, building model airplanes and boats, and reading. He was a member of the Superior Association of Woodworkers for 15 years and acted as Treasurer for 8. Kevin enjoyed learning how things work, tinkering, and fixing anything and everything.

Kevin will be lovingly missed by his wife, Susan; children, Colin (Grace) and Jillian; granddaughters, Aurora, Sophia, and Eleanor; mother, Sharon; and brother, Cam (Cathy). He was predeceased by his father, Wayne Girardin.

Thank you to everyone involved with Kevin's care at the Cancer Centre, St. Joe's Hospice, and with Home Care. Special thanks to social worker Paul Carrier, nurse Jeff Pruys, and pastor Jay Ewing.

A memorial service will be held at Redwood Park Church, 2609 Redwood Ave, on Saturday, October 5, 2024 at 11:00 am. Visitation will begin 1 hour prior, and a reception will follow. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation (designated to the Northern Cancer Fund) or St. Joseph's Foundation (designated to the Hospice Unit) would be appreciated.

The service will be livestreamed at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered as well.

I would like to extend my condolences to Kevin's family. Kevin was recommended to me when I was renovating my home. He was the best craftsman I ever met. Not only was his talent with wood unsurpassed, he was also genuinely kind and professional. He really enjoyed a challenge when it came to his craft, which shows in our home.
