Laura DiSimone-Iachetta Obituary

It is with profound sadness that the DiSimone Family announces the sudden passing of Laura DiSimone-Iachetta on May 17, 2025 in TBRHSC at the age of 49.

Laura was born on May 5, 1976 in Thunder Bay, ON along with her twin sister Jennifer. From the beginning it was difficult to tell the twins apart, their mother and father would have to write their initials on their clothes. Laura and Jennifer always had a tight bond growing up and rarely separated. They would even communicate in their own language.

After high school Laura attended college. Once she graduated, Laura and her siblings opened the local Quiznos Sub in Thunder Bay. You could always find her at the till or making sandwiches.

In Laura's free time she enjoyed traveling, everything Disney and her beloved dogs Taz and Daisy.

In Laura's 30's she was diagnosed with MS. Throughout the years Laura always maintained a positive attitude. Laura spent the last 13 years at St. Joseph's Hospital, where she made numerous friends. Her passing marks the end of a courageous journey, one that was defined by strength, resilience, and an unwavering spirit in the face of immense challenges. For years, she fought a quiet but relentless battle with a disease that often robbed her of the ability to do the things she loved, yet never seemed to steal her hope or determination.

Laura will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her parents Antonio and Mary DiSimone, her brother Vince (Rosemary) DiSimone, sister Jennifer DiSimone. She is also survived by her nieces Alyssa and Emily DiSimone, aunt Sandra (Gaetano) Carpino, uncle Tony Silvestri and many cousins and other extended family.

Laura was predeceased by her spouse Frank Iachetta, grandparents, aunts and uncles.

The DiSimone family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph's Hospital 4 south for the care and compassion they gave to Laura during her time there. We would also like to express our gratitude to Dr. Fieldstine for the excellent care he provided to Laura. A final thank you to the staff of TBRHSC 3C for their empathy during this difficult time.

Services for Laura will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 at St. Anthony's Church, 123 Hilldale Road, where the Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Fr. Luigi Filippini at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be held at church beginning at 10:00 a.m.

For those unable to attend in person, the Funeral Mass will be streamed live at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered as well.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MS Society or Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.

I am so sorry to hear of Laura's passing I am a retired nurse from St.Joes but I remember Laura from when I worked there
After I retired I remained on as casual and took Laura more than once to Regional for different tests or procedures
She always had a quiet presence about her but if one took the time to listen she had a lot to say
Condolences to her family

My deepest sympathy to Laura´s supportive and loving family.
I remember a Laura as a person who lived her life with integrity and kindness towards others. I appreciate the friendship Laura provided to staff and clients while staying on the 4th floor of St. Joseph´s Hospital.

Laura was part of the 4south 'lunch bunch' I met in fall 2023 as I visited a client as a volunteer with Hospice Northwest. Laura inspired all of us with her determination to live life to the fullest in spite of the challenges. My prayers for her parents who supported Laura so faithfully.
