MacDONALD ("Lawrie")
Lawrence Duncan MacDonald, lovingly known as Lawrie, passed away peacefully on January 20, at the age of 66, surrounded by love with his family by his side. Born in Toronto, Lawrie fulfilled his lifelong dream of raising his children in Northern Ontario. Thunder Bay became his home for 35 years, where he built a life centered on family, hard work, and enjoying the great outdoors. Lawrie worked tirelessly as a truck driver throughout his career, hauling dangerous goods and later delivering oxygen to hospitals work he took pride in, knowing it made a difference. Lawrie was a member of St. Margaret's Parish and valued the sense of community he found there, as well as the friendships he built through the Knights of Columbus and with Father Ciarán Donnelly. His greatest joy was his grandchildren, whom he loved beyond measure. He found happiness in simple pleasures - he loved watching the ships come and go through the grain elevators on Lake Superior. Lawrie is survived by his family: Barb, his wife of 27 years. Their children: Erica (Jay, grandchildren Jaiden, Zackery and Hailey), Brenda (Ryan), James (grandchildren Roark, Jordyn and Lynkon), John, Gini (Anthony and granddaughter Ada), and his best friend Frank, whom he considered a brother. He is also survived by his siblings; Scott (Melanie), Linda (Larry), Donna (John), and Dyan, as well as many more members of extended family. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Bob and Doreen MacDonald. Lawrie will be remembered for being larger than life loud in the best way, with a laugh you could hear from a mile away. He loved to tell stories, often more than once, and had a way of drawing people in. His presence filled a room, and his absence will be deeply felt.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the entire team on 1A, and to St. Joseph's Hospice, for their exceptional care and kindness.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring, with details to be announced at a later date.
"Dad, you fought so hard for so long. We are ready to trade your pain for ours.
Be free. We love you."
