LEA NIITTULA Obituary

(Toivonen) 1930 - 2025 Lea Niittula passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at the age of 95, with her family by her side.

She was predeceased by her husband, Matti (Matias) Niittula; daughter, Ellen Bengtsson; parents Into and Sanni Toivonen; sisters Rachel Laukka (Arvo), Annie Nisula (Veikko), Toini Kivisto (Reino), and Aini Rajala (Arnold); and brother Lauri Toivonen.

Lea is survived by her son Richard (Elena); son-in-law Bob Bengtsson; grandchildren Krista (Alan) Cheeseman, Michael Bengtsson, Derrian, Haleigh, and Paige Niittula; great-grandchildren Megan and Sierra Cheeseman, Carli, Chloe, and Londyn Bengtsson; her brother Oiva (Maria) Toivonen and sister-in-law Ilona Toivonen; godchildren Elma Hill and Edwin Kivisto; and cousin Rick Munn, and Dr. Scali, whose care meant so much to her.

Lea will be remembered as fiercely independent and strong-willed, leaving an enduring example of resilience for her family and friends.

A private family interment will be held at Riverside Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Matti.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lea's memory may be made to Christ Lutheran Church or the Charity of Your Choice.
