Mr. Leon Joseph Roy, age 83, passed away on June 13, 2023 at home with his beloved wife Hazel (nee Larocque) by his side; right where he wanted to be.
He met Hazel on her 16th birthday (August 1960) and from then on, they belonged to one another; they would have celebrated 60 years of marriage on July 12, 2023.
Leo was born on August 10, 1939 in Cadillac, Abitibi, Quebec. He was a plasterer by trade but went to Resolute (Great Lakes) when his first son was born, retiring after 32 years. He and Hazel travelled extensively; Europe, Vegas, Dominican Republic, Hawaii, Florida, Jamaica, Cuba, New Orleans, San Francisco, Mexico and Venezuela to name a few. Leo loved watching Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Blue Jays. He especially loved the house boat fishing trips with his 3 sons, his nephew and father-in-law.
Leo is survived by his loving wife Hazel and 3 sons Robin (Tracey), Derek (Nancy) and Jamie; grandchildren Desiree, Derek, Devon, Raquel and Sophia; sister Irene Romanoff (of B.C.); sisters-in-law Carol Roy and Judy Larocque (John); nieces Tina Dicks (of B.C.), Anita Romanoff (of B.C.), Charmaine Roy and Trisha LeBlanc; nephews Michael Roy, Rick Romanoff, Michael Larocque and Roddy Larocque (Hannah); as well as numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews; and we can't forget how much he loved his little dog Posy.
He was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Eveline (nee Belanger) Roy; brother Reggie Roy and sister Muriel Dicks; in-laws Omer and Doris (nee Gillanders) Larocque; brothers-in-law Ray and Ken Larocque; and a newborn son; as well as many aunts, uncles and his great nephew Skyler.
A Graveside Service for Leo will take place at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Riverside Cemetery, 800 Oliver Road, presided by Rev. Rob Smith. Friends and family may gather at the main gate at 10:45 am. A reception will follow at Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 Cumberland Street North.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson Canada or a
