LESLIE GRAHAM Obituary

GRAHAM, LESLIE JAMES LAWRENCE
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our adored husband and father Leslie ('Bluey'). Leslie passed away in Edmonton, AB on October 27, 2025 at the age of 90 with his beloved wife Marjorie and eldest daughter Helen by his side. Dad was born in Christchurch, New Zealand. He is predeceased by his brother Matt and sisters Vivian and Sheila. He will be remembered by his sisters Kathleen, Lorraine, Janice and Bevely. Leslie spent many years in the Royal New Zealand Navy where he served as a Chief Petty Officer on board the HMNZS Bellona, Taranaki, Otago, the Royalist and the Black Prince. It was whilst he was stationed in England that he had his first date with the love of his life, Marjorie. Six weeks later they were married. They celebrated their 65th anniversary days before his death. Dad returned to school after his naval career and earned his engineering degree. His career was adventurous and exciting and eventually brought him to Terrace Bay, ON as manager of the Engineering department for Kimberley Clark. Dad later owned Graham, Page and Associates in Kapuskasing, ON. Dad loved engineering and worked till he was in his eighties. He was a mentor and an inspiration to many in the industry. Dad will be remembered as a sailor, an engineer, a plumber, an electrician, a musician, a prospector, a wonderful husband, a devoted father, a silly Grandad and our family's wise sage. Dad was a lover of classical music and spent time teaching himself classical guitar, mandolin, flute, banjo and his favourite, the oboe. His passion was sailing and he spent many happy summers exploring Lake Superior at the helm of the Haumoana and later in the canoe at Moonbeam. Dad is missed by his loving wife Marjorie and his children Ian (Nancy), Bruce (Shirley), Helen, Rachel and Alyson (Dalton). Grandad to Hannah (Sam), Liam (Chantal), Mason, Iain (Brenna), Matthew and Ben. Great Grandad to Logan, Bowie and Olivia. Special friend to Linda, Lyrian and Pammie. Dad lived his life with integrity, love and kindness. In his memory we ask that you do something kind for someone.

My earliest memory of Les was of a new red-haired brother, using nappies and drinking water from a banana/ canoe shaped bottle. Two sisters later, I was sitting up in bed, just daylight, arms round Les and Ethel, holding their bowls while balancing my own bowl on my knees , and all coughing with Whooping-Cough. Our youngest sister had silent whooping cough. 1942/4 Les & I turning rows of hay before we could go for a swim at the next-door school pool. Trying to make cricket bats from a bit of wood, shaping handles with carving knife, & smoothing with dad's planes. Learning to play brass instruments for the Salvation Army band. Just some of my early memories.I share them with Love. Kathleen
