We are saddened to announce that Lewis Clark passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife Eleanor at St. Joseph's Hospice on June 12, 2017 at the age of 83. We are forever grateful to Arch Deacon Debra Kraft for Lewis's final family gathering for bedside prayers. We are thankful to our mother for her at home care of Dad throughout his 11 years of declining health due to Alzheimer's. Our mother's exceptional love and care was supported by the amazing supportive staff and healthcare professionals of St. Elizabeth, CCAC, TBRHSC, Lifelabs, Paramedics and St Joseph's Hospice.
Our mother thanks each and every one who contributed to our Dad's care. We also want to especially thank two very special extended family members, Bob and Ray, who selflessly helped our family with Lewis's care.
Lewis was a man of great character and strength. His love and devotion to our family was unwavering from the moment he walked into our lives 50 years ago. Lewis also held his unconditional love for his three son's deep within his heart.
Lewis was the definition of an outdoorsman. Nobody and we mean NOBODY could catch a fish like our Dad. To quote the words of his brother Jim, “Lewis could fish in a mud puddle and catch fish”. If you ask his family they will all reply, “we are all the best jiggers on earth because our Papa Lewis taught us his technique”. His fishing stories and one liners are infamous. He taught us all the important life skills a person will ever need... how to hunt, shoot any gun, fish, boat, drive any motorized vehicle, filet any fish (not that you would ever eat anything but Pickerel), arm wrestle, repair anything on the spot, how to make butter tarts and too many other life skills to mention.
Lewis grew up on the shores of Nova Scotia. In search of work, he moved to Toronto, then Timmins to work in the gold mines until he finally enlisted with the Tank Core in Patawawa where he served his country until the end of his term. He returned to civilian life residing in Quebec, Timmins, Vermilion Bay and finally Fort William where he began his long time career with Abitibi as a machine operator and truck driver.
Lewis was a wonderful, loving uncomplicated man who was overly generous and kind to the soul. We will all miss his gentle loving presence in our lives.
Lewis was predeceased by his parents James and Margaret, son Dave, brother Don, sisters-in-law Donna and Diane.
Lewis is survived by the love of his life Eleanor Harris-Clark and children Don Harris Jr, Katharine McKee (John), Clint Harris (Kimberly), grandchildren Jesse (Katrina) and Celeste Harris, Niall (Amy) and Eric (Stephanie) McKee, Mackenzie (Brad) and Conner Harris and his very special great-grandson Jude Harris.
Lewis is lovingly remembered and cherished by his sons Kerry and Robert Clark, sister Edna (Fred), brothers Jim, Gordon (Mary) and Frank. Lewis is also missed by his many foster children, nieces, nephews, friends and co-fishermen at Whitefish Lake.
Our family will forever cherish the love of Lewis.
A private Family Service will be held to honour him.
