LINA MAYER Obituary

1948 ~ 2026
It is with profound sadness that the family announces the
passing of their dearly loved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and niece, Lina Mayer, on February 10, 2026. She passed away peacefully at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

Born on September 5, 1948, in Castelli Teramo, Italy, to Piacentina and Cherinto, Lina immigrated to Canada with her family in 1953, settling in the Thunder Bay area, which
remained her lifelong home.

In 1966, she married her beloved husband, Robert, and together they raised five children. Devoted to her family, she remained at home while her children were young. Once they were older, she entered the workforce, beginning at the local drive-in theatre. She later dedicated 25 years of service to various long-term care homes with the City of Thunder Bay, retiring in 2010.

A faithful Catholic, Lina generously volunteered at Corpus Christi Church. Time spent with family was especially meaningful, whether traveling across Canada to visit loved ones or gathering around the table for Sunday dinners.

Her homemade ravioli, lasagna, gnocchi, spaghetti sauce, and meat pies became treasured family traditions that will be lovingly remembered for years to come. She also enjoyed trips to the casino with her sister Julie and playing Hagi TV bingo.

As her grandchildren grew, she found special joy in the book Love You Forever by Robert Munsch, often singing its familiar words to them a memory they will forever hold close to their hearts.

Lina is lovingly remembered by her children: Rochelle (Shaune), Roberta, Laurie Coates (John), Michael, and Paul (Amy); her sister Julie (Ralph); her aunt Ida; her grandchildren Jessica, Emily, Nicole (Alec), Chantel (Braidyn), Brandon (Karen), and Christopher; and her great-grandchildren Conor and Sonny. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Robert (2014); and her brother, Bruno (2025).

A heartfelt thank you is extended to the team at The Walford Thunder Bay for the wonderful care, kindness, and comfort shown to Lina during her time as a resident. Your compassion and dedication meant so much to her and to our family.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated team of the Outpatient Hemodialysis Department at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for seven years of truly compassionate and attentive care. The kindness, patience, and unwavering support you showed Lina throughout the years will always be remembered and
deeply appreciated.

We are equally grateful to the staff of the 2C unit for their warmth, patience, and gentle care. The love and compassion Lina received from everyone brought comfort to her and reassurance to our family.

A Mass and Celebration of Life will be held, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. An announcement will be made at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Renal Hemodialysis Fund at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation in memory of Lina Mayer.
