(née McGovern)
September 2, 1946 ~ October 2, 2025
Linda Morais (McGovern), age 79 years, of Thunder Bay, Ontario, passed away peacefully at TBRHSC on October 2, 2025. She left the world peacefully, with a heart full of love to meet her grandson for the first time. She was born in 1946 to Matt and Ellen McGovern. She spent 46 years in her home on Athabasca where lots of memories were created. Known to many as "Ma," she was a loving soul who always spoke her mind. From daily phone calls to checking in on loved ones, to being part of every special occasion with her warm smile and camera in hand, she made her presence and her love felt. Linda worked at the Deluxe and Paradise Restaurants for nearly 20 years until the restaurant closed and remains friends with a few of her customers from there. She then went to Slovak Legion where she worked with her son and best friend Donna. Finishing off her work life with Dilico doing what she loved for roughly 30 years as a respite worker, taking in over 2,000 children during that time and caring for them as if they were her own something she cherished deeply, especially her time spent with Suzie who she still stayed in contact with. Linda will be remembered as a strong-minded and stubborn woman with a heart full of gold. Her family and grandchildren were her greatest joy and meant the world to her. She was always there for them, attending their school events, bowling, baseball, navy and activities no matter what with the last being Sarah's graduation which she was so excited and proud to be involved in. She never missed a chance to brag about her family's accomplishments. It didn't matter if she had to walk, take the bus, or find a ride she always showed up. She loved spending time at Robyn's, Intercity, Tim Horton's and Java Hut, where she shared laughs, coffee, and conversations with friends and people she called family. You might also have seen her scratching her lottery tickets, if she won, she would be sure to brag about it. Some of her favourite moments were visiting and feeding the ducks at Friendship Gardens or spending time with her mother Ellen at the nursing home visiting faithfully three days a week. Linda always had a way of telling it how it was even if you didn't want to hear it She was honest, strong, and never afraid to speak her mind, yet her compassion shone through in everything she did she will leave a lasting impression on everyone she met. She is survived by her Mother Ellen McGovern, Sisters Betty (Frank), Brenda (Bob) Daughters Donna (Joe) there 2 kids Megan & Avery, Tammy (Sean) her 2 sons Jordan & Tyler, Alan (Terra) there 2 girls Sarah & Alexis and numerous nieces and nephews. She also treasured the bond she had with her special friends Merico (Marigold), Dario (Kathy) & family. She is preceded by her father Matt, Ex-Husband Roland, Brothers Lenard & Wayne and Sister Jeanette and grandson Ethan Morais. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Solarium Room at the Slovak Legion. Where we welcome everyone to join the family for snack and to share memories. The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses in the Emergency Department and 1A for their care, compassion, and kindness during this time and the heartfelt care they gave her. She will be dearly missed, she may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts. In lieu of flowers we will have a basket for donations that we will pass on to the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Unit in Thunder Bay and The Children's Centre new Youth Hub in her name as she truly believed in this.
