2015
Our beloved Mom, Lisa LeGros, passed away peacefully May 18, 2015 at her residence in Pioneer Ridge at the age of 90. Anna Lisa was born October 4, 1924 to Nestor and Anna Wirtanen, recent immigrants from Pori, Finland. The eldest of 3 daughters Lisa was a Current River girl who grew up in the family home beside Boulevard Lake. She loved to listen to the water rushing under Current River Bridge. After graduating from Current River Public School Lisa attended Port Arthur Tech School (later Hillcrest High), where she earned various awards for mathematics. Her next goal was to become a nurse. She commenced training at Port Arthur General Hospital and graduated in 1945, at the age of 21. Lisa stayed and worked at the General Hospital for her entire nursing career, a vocation she loved and excelled at. In 1946, she married Tom LeGros and they began to build the family home on Morse Street in Current River. Three children were born in the following years, Christine, Ron and Marianne. Lisa was very artistic and creative and belonged to many art and craft organizations in the city and at Current River United Church. Throughout the years we have all been blessed with her watercolour paintings and intricate knitted sweaters. She tried almost every kind of craft and mastered them all. Mom left us with an appreciation and love of art and music and the ability to see beauty in nature and the world around us. Siamese cats were Mom's other great love starting with Sake followed by Suky and Suky II. They were her constant companions and she loved them dearly. Travel was one of Mom's great pleasures. It could be to Puerto Vallarta in the winter for the sun or to Finland to visit her relatives. In later years, favorite trips were to Vancouver or Sault Ste Marie to watch her grandchildren grow up. A very special place for Lisa was at the family camp at Ishkibbible Beach. It was here she was the happiest, sitting with the sun shining on her face and listening to the waves of Lake Superior with her family around her. Lisa is survived and missed deeply by her children: Christine (Bill) Paul, Ron (Port Coquitlam), Marianne (Mark) Senecal, (Sault Ste Marie); 5 beautiful grandchildren: Andrew LeGros, Michelle LeGros, and Graham LeGros of Port Coquitlam and Ian Senecal (Deralise), Leah Senecal (Ben) of Sault Ste Marie. Missing her also are her 2 sisters: Eva Walczak and Miriam Taylor. Predeceased by her parents Nestor and Anna Wirtanen, brothers-in-law Ron Taylor and Jack Walczak and her husband Tom LeGros in 2010. A service will be held Friday, May 22 at 11:00am at Current River United Church, Morse. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Thunder Bay Humane Society or Current River United Church fund.
