It is with great sadness that the family of Lois Joanne Piper (McKay) announce her peaceful passing on Oct. 26, 2017 at 81 years of age.
Lois lived all of her life in Thunder Bay and attended Teacher's College in North Bay. She taught at Claude E. Garton School and the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital. Lois devoted herself to raising her three daughters and creating a warm and inviting home for her close knit family. She was married to Jim for almost 58 years. She was an exceptional nana to her grandkids whom she cherished and who will miss her greatly.
Kind, thoughtful and giving, Lois saw the best in everyone. She approached life with a great sense of humour. A fantastic cook and a master of hosting large family gatherings and Sunday dinners, she always had room at her table for one more. She was an avid curler for many years, and maintained long lasting friendships with her teammates. She also took pleasure in regular lunch dates with high school pals. Her creative side was expressed through painting, pottery, sketching, sewing and knitting. Lois was an animal lover and the family pets knew it. She enjoyed many travel adventures with her husband Jim and her family. Lois had many great times vacationing with friends in Florida and Barbados. Lois loved family-filled summers at Loon Lake. In addition, she volunteered for many years, creating delectable desserts for Trinity United Church's Dessert of the Month.
Lois will be remembered by all who knew her as a loving and supportive wife, daughter, mother, sister, niece, nana, aunt and friend. She leaves behind her loving husband Jim, daughters Janice (Michael), Jackie, Kelly (Stan), her grandchildren Andrew and Natalie Wilson, sister June Boland, many nieces and nephews, brother and sister-in-law Bob and Sue Piper and sister-in-law Barbara McKay. She was predeceased by her brother Norman McKay and parents Ilene and Stuart McKay.
Thank you to the Pioneer Ridge “family” who cared for and laughed with Lois over this past year. We are also grateful for the support provided by the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay and Wesway. Visits from family and friends were much appreciated.
A celebration of Lois's life will be held on Wednesday, November 1st, 11:00am, at Trinity United Church.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay or the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.
In memory of Lois, sing or dance to Neil Diamond and show kindness to animals and people alike.

So much in this obituary that I wish we knew about her... a wonderful woman.
