LORETTA KITT Obituary

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Loretta Angela Kitt (nee Bellon) on March 20th 2025 at Hogarth Riverview Manor, at age 91, with her family by her side. Loretta was born in Winnipeg, MB to John and Irma Bellon.

In 1954, Loretta met Douglas Kitt in Sioux Lookout, where he was working. From a distance his smile captivated her heart. As mom would say "his smile could light up a room". They married in 1955. From there their life journey began. Over the next ten years they welcomed six children.

Loretta worked as a secretary with Employment Insurance and with the Sioux Lookout Zone Hospital. After Loretta and Doug were married, they ran a laundry business while Doug was also working for CN. As the family grew, they moved to Dryden and later to Brandon MB. In 1978 they moved their family to Thunder Bay where Loretta worked in security at Sears until retirement.

Loretta was a long-term member of the CWL Catholic Women's league at St. Domenic's Church, Grandview Lodge and the Shelter House. Loretta was always busy, but found the time to raise her children, and grandchildren. She always found time to get together with friends for a coffee or two. Loretta was an amazing cook and always had a pot of soup on stove ready to be served up. Her home was always a gathering place for all. She loved her family dearly.

Loretta is survived by her children, Julie Martin, John Paul (Val), David (Tara), Don (Carla), Wally (Lorrie), Ken (Tracey), along with 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters Dolores Armstrong, Paula McParland, and Luanna Quirk.

Loretta was predeceased by her husband Douglas Kitt, her parents, her sister Vivianna Brown, brother-in-law John Kitt, brother-in-law Alan Armstrong and niece Kim Armstrong.

Loretta loved and supported her family in all of their endeavors. She was truly a kind soul and remarkable woman (with so much class and style). She treated everyone she met with respect, she stopped and talked to anyone she met whether she knew them or not. Her good heart touched many lives.

A special thank you goes out to all of the staff on 2N Lavender at Hogarth Riverview Manor, for the exceptional care and support that all you provided for our mother over her 4+ year stay.

Funeral Services for Loretta will be held in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre on Saturday, March 29, 2025 presided by Fr. Michael Mahoney at 11:00 a.m. Visitation for family and friends will begin one hour prior. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be streamed live at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered as well.

Loretta loved all animals. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Loretta's memory to the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society or to a Charity of Your Choice.

To the family of Loretta, I just wanted to share how sorry I am to hear about your mom. I enjoyed getting to know your mom on 2North for years and felt like when you came in to see your mom on a daily basis that all of you were so kind and such a wonderful family! I will always remember Loretta to be such a kind and sweet lady, it was such a pleasure to get to know her and enjoyed many evenings comforting her and watching game shows before bed, we would have some laughs and as well as getting to know your family. As I was off sick for a period of time and returning to work just after your mom´s passing I will miss seeing your mom and your special bond and the funny visits we would have. It will definitely be different not having Loretta on 2N as she was part of our little family. Thank you for everything and all the kind words you guys would share, all of you will be missed!! You should have comfort knowing that you gave your mom such a full and happy life because her family was everything to her! Sending my condolences Nicole from 2North.
