LORRAINE McGAULEY Obituary

LORRAINE ALEXANDRINA McGAULEY Lorraine Alexandrina McGauley (nee Contois) aka Rainy passed into the spirit world with her family by her side on March 22, 2025. Born April 10, 1945 she was just a few weeks shy of her 80th Birthday.

Born in Port Arthur, Ontario, her family moved around the North Western Ontario region while her Dad pursued employment opportunities. She was educated at schools in Port Arthur, the Greenstone area and Dryden. She loved to share tales of her childhood while growing up in Current River and at the Kinghorn logging camp. She met her husband Dennis in 1961, and together they built a home and family through dedication, hard work and perseverance. They were together for more than 56 years until Dennis' passing in 2018. She was a proud mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Lorraine was an accomplished cook and baker and we will forever reminisce about her famous Sunday suppers while we were growing up at our beloved Franklin Street home. She lovingly recreated the French-Canadian dishes of her heritage and proudly taught them to her children. She loved to watch the birds at her feeder and had a deep appreciation and respect for nature and all of mother earth's creatures. Some of her favourite past times included enjoying a good novel, colouring, Word searches and socializing over a board game, especially Scrabble. Nothing pleased her more than a good cribbage throw down. She was quite proud of her wild flower bouquets that she would forage for on her nature walks through Centennial Park.

She possessed a hard work ethic and worked at a time when it was not commonplace for wives and mothers to hold a job. Her working career came to an end due to an unfortunate back injury that resulted in multiple surgeries. She struggled with her physical and mental health for many years but possessed a stubborn, fighting spirit like no other. She was always hopeful and could see the bright side of things even when times were tough.

Lorraine will be sadly missed by her children, Laurie, LaDonna, Bryan (Jodi), her grandchildren Alyssa, Sean and Brianna and her great grandchildren Greyson and Finnley. She will also be missed by her sisters Alda Minoletti and Vivian Eaton (John) as well as several in-laws, numerous nieces & nephews and special fur babies Zeus and Diesel.

She was predeceased by her husband Dennis, her parents Joseph and Louise Contois (nee Wilkes), step-father Spencer Vowles, brother Frederick Contois, parents-in-law Ralph and Iris McGauley, step-father-in-law Jim Munro as well as several in-laws, aunts and uncles and numerous fur babies.

Thank you to Doctors Krupa and Edwards for your long-time care of Lorraine. Also special thanks to Dr. Feldstein and the staff of St. Joseph's Hospital for your hard work and dedication to her care.

A Celebration of Lorraine's Life will be held in the Arbor Lounge of Harbourview Funeral Centre on Monday, April 21, 2025 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Lorraine's memory to the Diabetes Association, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society.
