Luciano FARNO Obituary

Devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and steadfast friend. He passed suddenly in his 80th year.

Defined by his love of family, opera, art and the joy that he brought to others.

He attended seminary college in Italy where his love of reading and learning flourished. A life-long aficionado of classical literature, in particular those originals written in Latin and his native Italian, he could be counted on to colour the conversation with countless poems recited from memory. His favourite was Dante's The Divine Comedy. In his free time when he wasn't doting on his wife or daughters, he always had a book or two nearby.

Luciano was community-focused and enhanced the local culture through his dedicated volunteer work at the Italian Cultural Centre and St. Anthony's Catholic Church. His enthusiasm for community events was shared with his wife of 57 years, Raffaella, and together they were fixtures on the dance floor.

Music was a gift he shared by singing in a number of choirs including the Italian Alpini Choir of Thunder Bay, the Thunder Bay Symphony Choir and the Italian Choral Group of St. Anthony's Church. He regularly volunteered his beautiful tenor voice to the funeral services of friends and to those in need. (His nickname was Pavarotti.)

His loss looms large - and is felt by many, but his memory will be treasured forever. A Celebration of Life will follow in the Spring. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be sent to:

To Papa: The Ferryman has received coin. We wish you safe passage across the river so your soul may roam free amidst music and laughter. You will be cherished forever.

Kind and sweet father of Maria and Delia. Growing up with Maria, (my fellow piano friend.) I ca remember many summers during the Italian festival when Luciano and Lina would dance and take everyone's breath away. He was a also very fun to be around when I would visit her family home. Being away from TBay, I am saddened to hear of his passing. I wanted to offer condolences on behalf of myself and my family. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Farno family. May your hearts heal with time.
