Luis Mira, age 95 years, a resident of Thunder Bay for over 60 years, passed away at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Center after a brief illness on February 26, 2024. Luis Mira was born in Monte Real, Portugal. It was there he met and married his wife, Maria. He immigrated to Canada in 1955 and settled in the Port Arthur area of Thunder Bay in 1964. Luis and Maria raised their two children together until Maria's passing in 2012. Luis is survived by his children: Louis Mira (Kim Olson) and Fernanda Mira (Frankie Rivera). He remained agile and independent until his recent illness. His simple and feisty desire to live forever among family will be missed. Luis enjoyed the outdoors. Prior to retiring, he worked in a variety of jobs related to the forestry industry with Abitibi bush camps. He spent his free time in younger days hunting and fishing in the city's surrounding forests and streams with family and friends. Throughout his life, he enjoyed the summers gardening in his backyard. As he aged the gardens grew smaller in size and he spent more time simply watching the backyard birds and chipmunks. The family would like to thank Dr. Prowse and Dr. Del Pagio for the excellent care they consistently offered our father. A special thanks to those nurses at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Center who saw beyond his age and offered him compassion and kindness in his last days and Dr. Simpson for believing in hope. Per the family's wishes, no service will be held at this time. A private family service will take place at interment. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Luis Mira's memory to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation-Cancer Care.
