LYNDA SOMERTON Obituary

It is with a profound sense of loss that we announce the passing of Ms. Lynda Mary Somerton, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Lynda was born on May 20, 1950, in Port Arthur, Ontario to the late Albert and Marguerite Somerton. Her journey concluded on July 7, 2025. Her kind heart, her gentle touch, and her creative spirit will be deeply missed. She carried the warmth of her family's love throughout her life, sharing it generously with all those she encountered.

Lynda worked as a custodian at McKenzie School while her boys attended school before her creative spirit led her to join her sister Gail at Dog River Pottery where she worked as a potter, crafting beautiful wildlife pieces that brought joy. Later in life, she became a home-care provider with Paramed. Lynda's interests were a reflection of her serene and creative soul. She found joy in crocheting. Never was a Christmas stocking without a pair of wool socks. Gardening was another of Lynda's passions, her hands often found in the soil. Camping trips were a source of peace and rejuvenation for Lynda, cherishing the tranquility of Silver Lake. Fond memories were made during her trips west to British Columbia to spend time with her sisters, including a last trip in December 2024.

She is survived by her loving sons, Chris (Candice) Van Huygevoort and Kevin (Laura) Van Huygevoort; her adored granddaughters, Aurora, Katherine, and Claire; her sister Wendy (Louie) Richardson; and her sister Gail (Ryan) Wilen and numerous nieces and nephews. Lynda was predeceased by her late partner, Wayne Kotovich, and the father of her boys, Marcel Van Huygevoort. She will be missed by her beloved couch-mate feline, Jasper.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will take place on Tuesday, July 22nd from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at North End Community Centre with a private interment to take place after.
