LYNN BOYKO Obituary

LYNN BOYKO
With her family and closest friends by her side, it is with great sadness that the family of Mary Lynn Patricia Boyko announce her unexpected passing into the arms of our Lord on October 10, 2023 at the age of 65.

Lynn was born June 9, 1958 in Port Arthur, Ontario. She enjoyed many activities in her youth including swimming, figure skating, and playing the piano. She also enjoyed skidooing, cross country and downhill skiing, horse back riding, and travelling to visit with family, which was like an annual family reunion. Spending time and helping her Dad with the maintenance of the cottage became a lifelong passion. She took pride and pleasure in caring for her house and vacation home.

Her formative education path started at Algonquin Avenue School and Hammarskjold High School. She then attended the Confederation College nursing program, from which she graduated in 1980. Her career began at St. Joseph's General Hospital, but her true passion brought her to Obstetric nursing, which she began in 1981 at the Port Arthur General Hospital. Over her career she attended many postgraduate and upgrading conferences. She retired from the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre in 2020.

Lynn had many opportunities over the years to travel and share her time with family and friends in such places as Mexico, Colorado, and various places in Canada, but her special places were at Warnica Lake, Port Charlotte and Oakbank.

In her professional life Lynn was known to have a strong work ethic, with great attention to detail and great compassion towards those entrusted in her care. She was loyal, thoughtful and giving. She loved being busy and found her work fulfilling and joyful.

Her faith gave her the gift to be Thankful, Grateful and Blessed, which was how she lived.

Lynn will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by her close and extended family. Sister Sherry with her husband Ron, and their daughters Jenn (Jeff), Michelle and Tina, who was the sparkle of her eye, will all miss her dearly. She also leaves behind great-nieces Emma and Brianna, and cousins Gord Johnson and Lori Dafoe, with their spouses Elaine and Don. Lynn had numerous aunts, uncles and cousins who live abroad. She was predeceased by her parents William and Patricia Boyko. The losses of Ken and Elsie Linklater, and Ernie and Helen Johnson also made a void in her life.

The family would like to thank Joanne Wade for being there when Lynn asked for help, nurses Kerri and Adam of the ICU for their compassionate care, and Dr. Lohkamp and Dr. Blonde for their expert care provided. Thanks as well to those who stayed with her during her final time and gave her comfort: Bev, Liane, Deb, Shirley, Drynda, Barry, Carm, Joanne, and Jesse. The love shared amongst you for your friend, I am sure, gave her strength.

Also, a thank you goes to Harbourview Funeral Centre for your compassionate care and guidance to our family and helping us plan for her celebration of life. Thank you to Fr. Pudicherry for his words of faith during the celebration. The Thunder Bay Celebration of Life will be held at Harbourview Funeral Centre on Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will begin one hour prior.

A thank you goes to Holly at Season's Funeral Home and for all the arrangements that she made so that Lynn can be laid to rest. Thank you Fr. Kowch for officiating. The Oakbank Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Ukrainian Catholic Church in Cooks Creek, Manitoba. Lynn will be laid to rest after the service at the parish cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation - Maternal Newborn.

Lynn was a close childhood friend when we lived on Cherry Lane. We reconnected again when she was the nurse that delivered our daughter. She was a lovely woman and my heartfelt condolences to sister, family and friends.

Although I didn´t know Pat & Bills daughters I know they were a great family. We were neighbours at camp at warnica lake. We built our camp there and had many conversations. My condolences in your loss of Lynn.
