Mabel L. Maley passed away peacefully in her Slate River Valley home on Wednesday, December 10, 2014, in her 100th year with her family by her side. Mabel was born on April 4, 1915, to pioneers Theodore and Effie Elchuk. She was raised in Murillo and resided there until her marriage to Joseph Maley in 1935. She and Joseph made their life in the Slate River Valley and together raised six children. She was predeceased by daughter Karen in
infancy, husband Joseph, brother George, sisters Mary (Enders), Annie (Vaillancourt) and Katie (Maley) and granddaughter Dawn. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Patrick, Timothy (Pauline), Elaine, Dianne, Joanne and Christopher (Beverly), as well as numerous grandchildren. Mabel always enjoyed life's simple pleasures such as, reading, music, poetry, crossword puzzles and a good game of crib or Scrabble. She loved the beauty of nature and enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Always an artist, she loved painting, and her home is adorned with many of her works. Her famous apple, pumpkin and saskatoon pies were a treasure to all who shared them. Mabel had a special touch with her plants and flowers, especially her beautiful roses, and she enjoyed tending her vegetable gardens and colourful flowerbeds. She was also known to turn a mean furrow in a plowing match. Mabel found great pleasure in her times with young people and spent many hours with her grandchildren, Jesse, Jennifer and Lee, nieces Margie and Kathy, nephew Jim and their families and her dear, devoted friends Jackie and Sara. She was a woman of great vitality and maintained her energy and sense of humour throughout her 99 years. Our memories of Mabel will be deeply cherished, and we are honoured to have had so many years of love and laughter with a truly remarkable, beautiful woman. Those who loved her are forever touched by her strength, her wisdom and her grace. The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to Nurse Practitioner Calvin Pelletier for his tenderness and compassion. Special thanks are extended to Leeza at C.C.A.C. and to Jenny and the staff at St. Elizabeth Health Care for their support. As per Mabel's wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no service at this time. As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to St. Elizabeth Health Care or the Northwest C.C.A.C.
Mabel Maley will be remembered in the Blake Funeral Chapel Memorial Grove. Annual dedication service Sunday, June 14, 2015.
