MABEL RYDENFORMER OWNER OFRYDEN'S BORDER STOREAfter living a full life, Mabel M. Ryden, 92, Grand Portage, Minnesota, went peacefully at home to her heavenly father, Monday, December 11, 2000. She was born September 6, 1908 to Fred and Hattie (Martineau) Potvin near Brainerd in Maryfield, MN. She lived her early life in Hill City, MN, was married to Edward June 21, 1937 and moved to Grand Portage in 1947, establishing Ryden's Border Store. After retiring in 1972 she enjoyed spending her winters in Havasu, AZ and Florida. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Grand Portage, the Ladies Auxiliary and the Eastern Star. She loved traveling in her motor home, entertaining people, writing letters and caring for older people in her earlier years while working in home health care. She is preceded in death by parents, husband Edward (February 1, 1988); 6 brothers and 1 sister. Survived by children Darrell (Ann Marie) Ryden, LaVerne 'Pete' (Phyllis) Ryden, Larry (Lucille) Ryden, Joy (Joe) Carlson and Clayton 'Clyde' Ryden; grandchildren Tim, Joey, Sheila, Eddie, Denise, Lori, Terri-Lynn, Cory, Debbie and Mike; 17 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousin; many friends. Visitation 6 PM until the 7 PM Prayer Service, Thursday, December 14, 2000 at St. John's Catholic Church, Grand Marais. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM, Friday, December 15, 2000 at the church. Burial at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Hovland Minnesota. Memorials preferred to the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Arrangements by Cavallin Funeral Home."
