Madeline Winters Obituary

Madeline Julia (Ma) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 4th, 2001 at Versa Care. She was 79 years of age. She was born in Humbolt, Saskatchewan on March 24th, 1922. Her first job was hairdressing, which she did for about 3 years in the West. The war brought her to Thunder Bay where she worked at Can Car as a rosie rivetor. There she met and married Frank Winters on May 3rd, 1942. They moved to B.C. in 1947 where she trained as a journalist. They returned to the Thunder Bay area in 1952. After a time she took up school bus driving for a few more years. When they moved into town she sold Fuller Brush for 3 years. In her early 50's she returned to school and graduated from Confederation College with a Business Management Diploma. She then worked for her son at Papa Joe's Pizza and when she was able, she then opened her own restaurant and service station in Dorion where she won awards for her business. After loosing her husband, she came back to Thunder Bay and continued to work for her son at Papa Joe's. She was a long time Member of the St. Patrick's Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed painting, poetry and gardening, but her favourite was reading and she loved to travel. She is predeceased by her husband Francis, two sons: Frankie and David, four brothers: John, Joe, Mat and Pat and one sister; Muriel. She is survived by 8 children: John (Wilma) Winters, Helen (Floyd) Hubbard, Tom (Cindy) Winters, Mark (Pat) Winters, Patrick (Gerri) Winters, Donald (Renda) Winters, Mary (Jack) Russell, Jerry (Patty) Winters, numerous nieces and nephews, 3 brothers: Clarence, Donald and Nick and 4 sisters: Joanne, Regina, Margaret and Yevonne. A funeral mass for Mrs. Winters will be held in St. Patrick's Cathedral on Monday, April 9th, 2001 at 1:00 pm. Interment in Mountain View Cemetery will follow. Visitation for family and friends will be held at Jenkens Funeral Home, 226 S. Syndicate Ave. , on Sunday evening from 7-9 pm. Pallbearers will be John Winters, Tom Winters, Mark Winters, Patrick Winters, Donald Winters and Jerry Winters. Honorary Pallbearers will be Helen Hubbard, Mary Ellen Russell and Robert Else. The family would appreciate memorial donations to the charity of your choice.A message for her family and friends. . . 'Treat each person that you come in contact with as if he or she had only one more day to live. . .Love and Kindness is the thing'"
