Marcia Dilley Obituary

Our aunt, great-aunt and sister Dr.Marcia Grace Dilley passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 17, 2011. Auntie Marcie was born in Trail, British Colombia to Charles and Rose Dilley. The family moved back to Port Arthur when she was quite young where she attended local schools. Any career choice Auntie Marcie made after graduating high school involved some area of creativity. She had so varied a career that it is difficult to tell all her accomplishments in one short article. Writing and photography were of great interest to Auntie Marcie. Early in her career she worked as a reporter for the News Chronicle for many years. Later in life, Aunt Marce returned to school and attended the University of Manitoba and the University of Western Ontario to pursue a new interest in Child Psychology. She earned her Doctorate and became a professor at Lakehead University. She loved mentoring students and enjoyed teaching. Upon retirement, Auntie Marce loved and excelled at pottery, painting, knitting, sewing, gardening, sailing, music, cooking and writing. Visiting her home showed her many interests and a life lived to the fullest. Always an avid reader, she had much wisdom to share (and yes, sometimes we did not want to listen). Anyone who really knew the Auntie Marcie we loved knows her favorite pastimes in recent years included a nice swim in her pool, a sit down in the sun with a good read, a short walk about in her garden with her pup, Hector and a cup of tea or maybe a nice red wine from her cellar. Auntie Marcie is survived by her special great-niece, my daughter Erin White whose gentle care and compassion cannot go unmentioned, and her sister Heather James. Many nieces, nephews, other family members and special friends will also miss Marcie. She was predeceased by her parents, Rose and Charlie, and her brothers Art and Bill. Little forget-me-not flowers were so special to my Auntie Marcie as her mom, my grandma Rose loved them and wrote in a letter to me..."Plant me in a little spot, just a small forget-me-not." We will never forget you Auntie Marcie! Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 11am in the Sargent and Son Funeral Chapel, 21N. Court St. with the Ven. Mark S. Conliffe officiating. Services to be complete in the chapel with a reception to follow in the Sargent Family Reception Center. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the TBRHS Foundation-Northern Cancer Fund would be appreciated. Thanks to the nurses who showed considerable care to our Aunt while she resided at Dawson Court. On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com "
