MARGARET KARJALAINEN Obituary

KARJALAINEN
Mrs. Margaret (Marg) Ann Karjalainen, nee Rankka, age 80 years, died in Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, on Tuesday December 10, 2024.

Born in Port Arthur, Marg worked for a number of local businesses, including Everest Funeral Chapel, and Gould & Company Beauty Supply, but her passion was music and playing the piano and organ.

Marg was the longtime Music Director at Lappe Lutheran Church. In her younger days she curled and played golf. She loved travelling with her lifelong friends, and also enjoyed quilting and knitting. She looked forward to the road trips with her daughter Marcia, to the annual family reunions.

Her church, family and friends were her primary focus, many of whom she had just recently celebrated her 80th birthday with!

Marg is survived by her daughter Marcia Reiner and son in-law Kevin Reiner; step-grandsons Lyle, Kristofer and great grandson Finley and his big sister Jerzi, brothers Jim Rankka (Salmi) and Larry (Trisha) as well as numerous loving nephews, nieces, grandnephews, and grandnieces.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ray and Helen Rankka, sister-in-law Joy Rankka, husband Ray, and her beloved son Dean. Also by her favourite aunt and uncle Helen and Harold Ritchie.

Funeral services for Marg Karjalainen will be held on Monday December 16, 2024 at 1:00 pm in Lappe Lutheran Church with Pastor Neil Otke officiating. Services complete in the church with interment of ashes in Lappe Cemetery in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Lappe Lutheran Church, TBRHS Foundation, or Aurora Bible Camp would be appreciated. EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma, in care of arrangements.

Thanks to Drs. Cunningham and Sellick, Palliative Care Nurse Robert, and all the staff at 2A for their outstanding care.

Margaret became a friend of mine at the apartment building on John Street Road. We had many pleasant conversations. I admired her independence and energy. It didn´t matter how harsh the weather was, she was out there. I will miss seeing her smiling face and the friendship we made. My deepest sympathies to her family.

Marcia, so sorry for your loss. Have known your mother and late father Ray since 1966 and more so when moving to Lappe in 1975. Attending church there for many years, I had the pleasure of her wonderful gift of music and her kindness. As the days and weeks pass, may you continue to feel comforted by the love and support of family and friends. May you cherish your memories forever in your heart.
