It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Mrs. Maria (Mary) Pugliese, age 82, of Egan Street, on October 9, 2025, at the Hospice Unit of St. Joseph's Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.
Mary was born on October 22, 1942, in Mangone, Italy, and immigrated to Canada in the late 50's. She was a proud member of the Catholic Women's League of Canada. She was recently honored with a 40-year volunteer pin, recognizing her decades of selfless service and unwavering commitment to her faith and community.
For over forty years, Mary generously volunteered her time at both St. Anthony's and the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital. Whether helping with parish events, supporting church functions, or simply lending a hand wherever needed, Mary served with humility, grace, and a deep sense of purpose. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, and she found great fulfillment in giving back to others.
Mary found joy in the simple pleasures-tending to her garden, flowers, and preparing delicious meals for her family. Her kitchen was always filled with warmth and laughter. Sunday dinners and family gatherings were cherished traditions, where she brought everyone together with her generous spirit and comforting cooking.
Above all, Mary's greatest joy came from her family. She devoted her life to caring for those she loved, and her grandchildren brought her endless happiness. Her gentle presence, kind heart, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Gaetano; her parents, Eugenio and Albina Guarasci; and her in-laws, Raffaele (Adelina) Pugliese and brother-in-law, Antonio (Rina) Pugliese, of Bolzano, Italy. Mary will be lovingly remembered by her sons Ralph (Lauri) Pugliese of St. Thomas, ON, Robert Pugliese, and Dino (Cheryl) Pugliese of Thunder Bay; her grandchildren Corey, Naleah, Kole, and Lisamarie; her brother Dominic (Cathy) Guarasci of White Rock, B.C.; her sister Renata (Guido) Lepore of Thunder Bay; her sister in law Maria (Fredinano) Pucci, of Bolzano, Italy and many other cherished family members and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at St. Anthony's Roman Catholic Church, 123 Hilldale Road celebrated by Rev. Luigi Filippini. Visitation for family and friends will take place at the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., prior to the service.
For those unable to attend in person, the Funeral Mass will be streamed live at www.harbourviewfuneral.ca where condolences may be offered as well.
