Marian Lucille "Babe Retired Senator, died peacefully on Saturday May 29, 2010. She is survived by her three sons Patrick of Vancouver, his wife Susan, their two children, Kaitlyn and Brogan, Michael of London, his wife Lisa, their two children, Keira and Teigan, and Jamie. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years The Honourable Justice A.W. Maloney. "Babe" was the youngest of 5 children born in Ponteix, Saskatchewan. Later her family moved to Dryden, Ontario, and Brandon Manitoba before settling in Thunder Bay. During her years in Thunder Bay she was actively involved in her community in every conceivable way including professional singing, community talk show host, running the Thunder Bay Winter Carnival and the Miss Thunder Bay Pageant. She was proud to recognize her roots when she became Senator from Thunder Bay and her beloved Surprise Lake. Without question, her proudest accomplishment was her family. It was a rare occasion if you spoke with her and didn't hear about Bill and her boys and later her four beautiful grandchildren. Politics was in her blood and the Liberal Party was her second family. She was a friend and mentor to many women candidates and inspired a generation of women who were aspiring to achieve public office. She was a relentless fundraiser for countless causes especially the Runnymede Hospital and her passion The Judy LaMarsh Fund, a fund to help women entering federal politics. In Toronto, friends were received at the Turner & Porter Butler Chapel, Etobicoke, on Monday and Tuesday evenings. A Funeral Mass to be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 3055 Bloor Street West, Etobicoke on Wednesday June 2, 2010 at 3 p.m. In Thunder Bay, friends may call at the Blake Funeral Chapel, 200 May Street S., from 11 am - 2 pm, on Friday June 4, 2010. Private family interment Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Judy LaMarsh Fund c/o The Liberal Party of Canada, The Liver Foundation or the Canadian Diabetes Foundation. "
