MARIE BRITTON Obituary

MARIE ANNE BRITTON (HAVENS NEE BOUCHER) August 17, 1931 ~ February 8, 2026
Marie Anne Britton passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026 at her residence in Winnipeg.

Marie formerly of LaSalle, Manitoba, Graham, Ontario and Winnipeg, widow of Charles Eugene Britton is survived by her daughter Claudette St. Pierre and son, Robert Havens (Annette), daughter-in-law Diane Havens, grandchildren Vanessa (Keith), Dominic (E-Jae), Simon (Wendy), Matthew, Kyle, Paul (Lynnsey) and Cole (Allyssa). Marie is also survived by her great grandchildren Nicholai (Courtney), Teo, Ripley, Finley, Clara, Maya, Atticus, Sven and River.

She was predeceased most recently by her son Ronald Havens (Diane). Also predeceased by parents Louis and Aldea Boucher, brothers Laurent, Edward, Paul, Armand and Claude. Marie will be remembered by Gene Britton's family, son and grandchildren. She will be especially missed by her kindred spirit and daughter-in-law, Margaret.

Marie was an extremely resourceful woman, entering the workforce at 16 yrs old at St Boniface Sanatorium (later evolving to St. Amant Centre), later at St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Mn. She then spent many years as secretary at the rectory for Paroisse Sacre Coeur on Bannatyne Avenue. Marie remarried and moved to Graham, Ontario where she and Gene spent years running their Trading Post, supplying hunters, fishermen, loggers, locals, and cottagers with postal services, groceries and ice blocks they cut from the lake at their front door. During the winters, she would accompany Gene on the trapline. They eventually sold their business and moved to St. Boniface, from where they travelled all over North America in their converted Dodge van. Once the travel bug was satisfied she spent many years selling her crocheted blankets at craft sales while Gene sold his woodwork. In later years she devoted her time to being a full time caregiver and homemaker. A few years after Gene's passing, her own needs increased and she moved into the care of Thorvaldson Care Centre and later to The Arbours at Linden Pointe where she spent her last year and a half.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful caregivers who tended to her needs at Thorvaldson Care Centre and lastly at The Arbours at Linden Pointe. They were gentle and compassionate and appreciative of her edgy sense of humour.

Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons Street, Winnipeg, MB at 10 AM on Wednesday March 11, 2026. A luncheon will be served afterwards. Internment will take place at a later date.
