Marilyn Desjardins, born September 27, 1936, in England, UK, passed away surrounded by love and family. She was the beloved daughter of Leslie and Marjorie Paul.
At the age of 18, Marilyn bravely moved to Canada, where fate brought her together with the love of her life, Gilles Desjardins, in Calgary. Their journey together soon led them to Wawa, Ontario, where they began building their family. Over the years, Marilyn and Gilles managed several hotels across Ontario and Manitoba, eventually settling in the Thunder Bay area. There, they embraced a quieter life, operating a small hobby farm filled with the simple joys of country living. Marilyn also proudly drove school bus for Iron Range Bus Line for more than 30 years.
Marilyn is survived by her daughters Michelle (David) and Jo-Anne (Paul); two grandchildren, Rob (Lorraine) and Sarah (Trent); one cherished great-granddaughter, Serena; and many nieces and nephews who will forever hold her close in their hearts. She is predeceased by her husband, Gilles Desjardins, her parents, and her sister Rosemary.
Marilyn had a deep love for country life, and the hobby farm became her sanctuary. It was there that she welcomed her first Bouvier puppy an experience that sparked a lifelong passion. From that moment on, Marilyn immersed herself in the world of dogs and canine training. She became actively involved with numerous dog clubs and excelled in Schutzhund, obedience, tracking, flyball, and agility. Her dedication, knowledge, and enthusiasm made her a respected member of the canine community. In her retirement, Marilyn returned to school to earn her Master Gardeners Certification, fulfilling another of her passions. Her flower gardens were her pride and joy beautiful, carefully tended spaces that reflected her creativity, patience, and love for nature.
Cremation has taken place, and a service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any local animal rescue or welfare organization of your choice, in honour of Marilyn's deep love for animals.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
