Mario Margarit Obituary

It is with heavy hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Mario Margarit, at the age of 85, at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, February 11, 2017.

Mario was born in Udine, Italy on August 7, 1931 and immigrated to Canada in 1954. Upon his arrival to Port Arthur, he started his career with Wakefield Dairies on Paquette Rd. and then with Klomp-Wakefield Dairies. His career at the dairy spanned approximately 40 years, retiring as Plant Foreman.

Mario loved to spend his summers in Italy with his brother and sister and their families. Mario also cherished his time fishing, hunting and making wine. He was a proud member of the Alpini Society of Thunder Bay and loved planning all the Alpini Activities throughout the years.

Mario loved life to the fullest and was a generous and selfless gentleman who always put the needs of others before his own.

He is survived by his special friend Lisa Pothakos, who has been a devoted companion for the past ten years; brothers Luigi (Angela) of Toronto, Lorenzo (Paola) of France as well as many nieces and nephews.

Although Mario never had a family of his own here in Thunder Bay, he came to have an extended family through Ido and Silvana Caratti and family and Carmine and Elvira Pascuzzo and family.

He is predeceased by his parents Pietro and Carolina Margarit and his sister Assunta Marriott of France.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening, February 15, 2017 from 7:00 until 8:00pm in the in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley St. at Algoma, with Vigil Prayers offered by Father Luigi Filippini at 8:00pm. Private interment will take place in Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date.

Should friends so desire donations made in memory of Mario to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
