MARY ANDERSON Obituary

MARY ELIZABETH ANDERSON April 8, 1950 - May 21, 2025
It is heartbreaking to announce the peaceful passing of Mary Anderson (nee Smith) after a courageous battle of Lupus. Born in Thunder Bay to Ellard and Stella Smith, Mary was the youngest of three. Mary was lucky enough to find the love of her life early, as she married her high school sweetheart Cliff. Together, they had two children, Jessica and James. As a family, they enjoyed spending time on vacations to Disney World, Wisconsin Dells, and Rapid City to name a few. Mary worked four years at Wayside, before moving onto the Royal Bank where she spent 24 more years. Finally, she joined up with her husband at Fort Optical, until both of their retirements. She loved to volunteer, with Beavers and Cubs, the 55 Plus Centre and then with Redwood Park Church. She was a firecracker who rarely liked to sit down, and always was active. Cliff and her enjoyed long walks into the evening, as well as dancing together at night. Mary is predeceased by her father Ellard and mother Stella, sister Dolores, and her little Jack Russel Terriers, Tigger and Sable. She is survived by her husband Cliff, daughter Jessica (Reed Lecomte), son James, grandkids Crystal and Aaliah, and brother Bobby. The family would like to thank Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for helping make her last few days peaceful, as well as the countless support from family and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 29 at 1:30pm at Redwood Park Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Redwood Park Church.

Jan and I send our heart felt condolences to Cliff and Mary’s family. We were privileged to know Mary and as neighbours for several years. Mary ignored her own health issues as she cared for, and about, other people who she knew and met. Always a smile, a short story, and a prayer whenever she met friends or strangers during the miles and miles of her walks.
May she Rest in Peace

To Cliff & Family, we are very saddened to hear of Mary's passing. You & she were good neighbours of my parents .. I remember one winter after a bad snow storm, when you both hurried over to their house to shovel away all the snow on their driveway. That was so thoughtful of you and very much appreciated. Mary was a lovely lady who we enjoyed talking to when we met up with her.. Our deepest sympathy to you & your family.

Mary was the spark of any fitness class I taught at Movati. I remember a really bad snowstorm one winter morning and Mary was the only one to show up to my strength training class. I admired her positive attitude and grace despite her health challenges. She was an amazing role model with an attitude that it was important to be a participant in life and not sit on the sidelines as a spectator.
