1941 – 2015
On the early morning of Monday, November 30th, 2015 at St. Joseph's Hospice, an angel came to take our beloved Mary Ann Chubak to the Lord surrounded by her family at her side, after a brief illness.
Mary Ann was born August 30th, 1941 to her parents Jennie and Mike Zurba in then, Port Arthur. She received her education here, and after graduating, embraced a fulfilling career teaching junior kindergarten children for the Lakehead Separate School Board, retiring after 35 years. She devoted her career to each and every child individually.
Mary Ann enjoyed her Thursday get-togethers with her friends, playing bridge and also with her many Sorority Sisters Laureate Gamma Zeta Chapter.
She was also very involved in community work, one being Recording Secretary with the Helping Hands Auxiliary at Pioneer Ridge. In 2014 she humbly accepted the honour for "Good Citizen Award" for her "Distinguished Contribution to the City of Thunder Bay".
Mary Ann was married to her loving husband Wilf Chubak on August 31st, 1964 and celebrated their 50th anniversary with family and close friends last year. She is pre deceased by her parents Jennie (Chomniak) and Mike Zurba and her brother Edward.
Leaving to mourn our loss is her devoted husband Wilf, sister Janet Niedbala, special nieces Diane Niedbala (Michael Moland), Donna Sprickerhoff (Dale) and Barbara Niedbala. She was an exceptional great aunt to Samara, Gauge and Halle Sprickerhoff and Kendall Niedbala, whom all were her special children.
She is also survived by her Uncle Oles Chomniak and Aunt Dora Blahut in Toronto, as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.
A Funeral Mass for Mary Ann will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Corpus Christie R.C. Church, 664 Red River Road, with services officiated by Father Allan Albao. A private interment will follow the service. Visitation will be held on December 2, 2015 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with prayers beginning at 8 p.m. at Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 N. Cumberland St.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations to be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre - Cancer Fund and St. Joseph's Hospice or the Charity of their choice would be greatly appreciated.

Mrs. Chubac was like my all time favourite childhood teacher. I was in her JK class, at St Margarets School, in 1980. Once I hit grade 6, 8 years later, I became her JK helper. I knew her neighbours and seen her when I visited them. She was grooming her yard many of times but I always enjoyed seeing her out and about. She was a beautiful lady who always looked stunning. The best part about her was her soothing voice and compassionate way of communicating with children. My mother also adored her. Rest Easy and know your Wife, Sister and Aunt was a blessing in so many peoples lives.
