With deep sorrow, the family of Mary Phyllis Ivany announces her peaceful passing at Pioneer Ridge, with her beloved husband Lloyd at her side. Phyllis was born in Salmon Cove, NL in May 1930. She was a teacher until her marriage to Lloyd in 1957, after which her focus was her family and the life and work of the church. Phyllis was very proud of her Newfoundland heritage and had many stories of her life growing up there. She especially enjoyed sharing those stories when she and Lloyd took their grandsons, Derek and David, to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Newfoundland in 1997. The four of them had a wonderful tour of the province together, taking in all the celebrations. She remembered everyone's birthdays and anniversaries and always sent a card or made a call. Her support for Lloyd through the years of his ministry was outstanding. In every pastoral charge, she made new friends and contributed to the life of the faith community. Phyllis loved to host a good meal and was known for her beautiful centerpieces. Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, the Rev. Lloyd Ivany, her son Peter and wife Rev. Susan Ivany, grandsons Derek (Michèle Gervais) and David (Paul Grandy). Also survived by sister Marie Thomas, brother-in-law Richard Poffley, sister-in-law Isabel Rose, sister and brother-in-law Ivy and Hanuel Ivany, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives. Predeceased by her parents Mary and Alfred Rose, brother Berkley and his wife Wilma, brother Warren, sister Daphne and husband Ed Crummey, sister Hilda and husband Sandy Clarke, and sister Berniece Poffley. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will take place in the summer at Westminster United Church, Thunder Bay, with the Rev. Steven Loweth presiding. An announcement will be made closer to the date of the service. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Memorial Fund at Westminster United Church are deeply appreciated. The family wishes to thank all of the staff at Pioneer Ridge for their extraordinary care for Phyllis over the years. We are so grateful.
