MARY LUEDTKE Obituary

February 2, 1944 ~ October 30, 2025
Mary Jane Luedtke, known fondly as Jane, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital on October 30, 2025, at the age of 81. She was born in Port Arthur, Ontario, to David and Joan Rooney.

Jane was the beloved wife of the late Helmut Luedtke. They were married on November 10, 1962, and shared many loving years together. She will be lovingly remembered by her children Otto and Eric (Michelle), and her cherished grandchildren Bailey, Zachery, and Tyler. Jane was predeceased by her daughter Anita and her brother Ted. She is survived by her siblings John, Pat, Danny, Roseanne, Joann, Susan, and Elizabeth, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly.

A proud graduate of the Registered Nursing Assistant program in 1962, Jane devoted her career to caring for others until her retirement in 2002. Beyond her profession, she was deeply committed to her community. She volunteered with the breakfast club at St. Anne's School, the Multicultural Association teaching language skills to newcomers to Canada, Camp Quality, the Thunder Bay Police Service, and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Thunder Bay.

She led a vibrant and active life, enjoying Can-Can dancing, Japanese dancing, aquafit, tai chi, and traveling to destinations across Europe, the Caribbean, South America, China, and the United States.

Jane was known for her bright smile and warm spirit qualities that drew people to her wherever she went.

A funeral service to celebrate Jane's life will be held on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at 11am in the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery.

Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Jane to Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

Jane will be remembered with love, laughter, and gratitude by all who were fortunate to know her.

Yesterday

I am very sorry to hear about Jane's passing. Jane joined our dancing group Sassy Seniors in 1998 and we had many years of dance classes, rehearsals and performances. Jane never missed a performance, unless absolutely could not. Jane was "the swing" in the group, meaning she knew everyone's part and never refused to sub in for another dancer. A beautiful, kind caring person who always had that beautiful smile. We will all miss her, may she rest in peace. Sincerely Lynda DePiero

I was saddened to learn of Jane´s passing. I first met her at taiji, and then through the breakfast club that followed. We also enjoyed several outings with the Thunder Bay Field Naturalists, as well as trips to Winnipeg to visit our respective grandchildren. I will miss her bright smile, her occasional "zingers", and her friendship. My sincere condolences to all her family.
