MARY ELLEN PERRY
The Toronto Blue Jays have lost one of their biggest fans. It is with great sadness that our family announces the passing of Mary Ellen Perry affectionately known as "Mary Perry".
Mom passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at the age of 87. She was a devoted mother and homemaker volunteering at her children's school for many years.
Ah, memories of Mom at Shebandowan Lake, the unofficial queen of the "backseat drivers" club. She could navigate the wilderness with a margarine tub and a keen eye for blueberries, yet never needed a license to steer the family ship. Her compass? The promise of a fresh fish dinner and the lure of an afternoon cocktail. And let's not forget her legendary directions, delivered with the gusto of a drill sergeant. No GPS could ever match the precision of her GET OFF IT! - a phrase that surely echoes across the lake to this day.
In a world where game shows and jigsaw puzzles reign supreme, one woman stood out as the grandmaster of multitasking. Not only could she whip through a crossword with the speed of a pen-wielding ninja, but she also kept score at her grandson's baseball games with the precision of a human calculator. Her knowledge of baseball was so legendary, even the pros would tip their hats. And when she wasn't being the family's sports statistician, she was sliding stones in curling with her curling friends and brightening lives with daffodils in support of the cancer research fund, all with a flair that could only be described as grand-champion level.
Mary Perry is survived by her daughter Linda Nolan, son Doug Perry (Kendra), son Scott Perry (Linda), grandchildren Dayna Nolan, Riley Nolan (Erin), Mitchell Perry (Sarah), Kevin Perry (Sasha), Alissa Fillator (Chris), and great-grandchildren Brynn and Haedynn. Also survived by other very close extended family.
Mom was predeceased by our dad Robert (Bob) Perry, her parents Tom and Catherine McArthur, sisters Barbara, Audrey, and brother Bruce. Her parents-in-law Jack and Jemmetta and son-in-law Randy Nolan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Hartford, for the exceptional medical care over the years, all the Doctor's, Nurses and PSW's at St. Joseph's Hospital, as well as the PSW's from Bayshore, especially Jon and Courtney. Special thank you to her wonderful neighbours Cheryl who kept a close eye on her and Sharon who was always up for some tea with Mom in the afternoon to keep her company and work on some puzzles. Thank you all for being so caring and thoughtful with Mom, your compassion did not go unnoticed.
In the spirit of celebrating a life well-lived, a Celebration of Life will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in the fellowship hall on Wednesday, June 26, feel free to drop in between 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.to share some stories and laughs. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Northern Cancer Fund would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
