Mary Provost Obituary
The family of Mary Edith Provost, age 82 years, are saddened to announce her passing at theGolden West Centennial Lodge in Winnipeg on June 17th, 2000.Mary was born October 9th, 1917 in Kenabeek, Ontario.After marrying her husband Bert, they lived in a few communities in N.E. Ontario before moving to Atikokan in 1953 where Bert worked at Steep Rock Iron Mines. When her children were young she taught Sunday School at Riverview United Church. She enjoyed being a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion as well as holding several offices in the Hope Rebekah Lodge including the office of Noble Grand. Mary also enjoyed many hobbies including curling, bowling, knitting, crocheting, reading and playing cards, expecially bridge. She was always ready and willing to do a good turn for someone in need.She left Atikokan following her husband's death in 1984 and settled in Thunder Bay for a couple of years, then onto Nova Scotia and finally Winnipeg.Mary is survived by 3 daughters:Gloria Merchant of Capreol, Faye Skean (George) of Thunder Bay and Donna Petrie (Gordon) of Winnipeg. Also by son Dennis Provost of Nova Scotia.Mary's family grew to include 14 grandchildren, 23 great granchildren and 1 great great grandson.Also surviving are her sister Carrie of Niagra Falls, sister-in-law Elsie Sparling and brother-in-law Frank Provost of Renfrew as well as many nieces and nephews.Besides her husband she was also predeceased by a daughter in infancy, 2 grandchildren, son-in-law Grant Merchant, her parents, 5 brothers and 1 sister.Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 22nd at 10:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 North Court Street with Rev. Lloyd Ivany officiating.Services complete in the chapel with private interment in Riverside Cemetery.Visitation for family and friends will be held this evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in The Sargent Chapel.Friends who so desire may make donations to theSalvation Army or the Alzheimer's Society."
