MARY THORSTEINSON (nee: Douglas) January 30th, 1933 - January 24th, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother and nana, Mary Thorsteinson. Mary Passed away peacefully on January 24th, 2024 at the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital with family by her side.

Mary was born on January 30th, 1933 in Valcartier, Quebec. She met her Husband Edward Thorsteinson in Valcartier where he was stationed at the Army base. Together they had 4 children and were happily married for 25 years. They then divorced and later became very close friends. Mary was loved by all who knew her and became Nana to so many more than just her own grandchildren.

Mary is survived by her children, Bob (Leanne) Thorsteinson, Garry (Judy) Thorsteinson, Greg (Suzanne) Thorsteinson, Kathy Portelance; grandchildren, R.J. (Marie) Thorsteinson, Joe (Candace) Davies, Jason Davies, April (Brian) Michael, Terence (Kaylee) Thorsteinson, Joseph (Phoebe) Thorsteinson, Brandon (Stephanie) Portelance, Trevor Portelance, James Young, Jonathon (Katelyn) Young; great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Tallon Thorsteinson, Violet, Rusty and Fancy Davies, Sabastien (Faye) Thorsteinson, Julien, Tristian and Chloe Roberts, David Michael, Declan and Isla Thorsteinson, Isabella and Zecharia Thorsteinson, Kasyn Portelance; great-great-grandchild, Khaleesi Thorsteinson; and sister, Cynthia Carlson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Predeceased by parents, Robert Douglas and Catherine McGrory; brother, Marvin Douglas; sister, Peggy Hawley.

The family of Mary would like to extend our sincere thanks to TBRHSC and the Nipigon District Memorial Hospital Staff, also to the outreach programs for their kindness and compassion during this difficult time.

As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
