Maureen Mills, our Mom, passed away at home with her family at her bedside on Friday, December 4, 2015. Maureen was born in Fort William on August 11, 1936. She attended local grade school and high school. After high school, Maureen attended McKellar General School of Nursing entering into the honourable profession of Nursing, graduating in 1957. In 1961, she married John F. Mills in Thunder Bay. The family moved to Winnipeg where Maureen worked at Winnipeg General Hospital. They moved back to Thunder Bay and Maureen returned to McKellar General Hospital where she worked on the Labour and Delivery ward for the next 15 years. She transferred to the Paediatric ward where she was a staff nurse and eventually became Manager. Maureen was a volunteer for the Canadian Diabetes Association from 1990 to 2001. She served as Secretary, Chair and Vice President. She served as Director for 4 years and also chaired the Awards Committee of the Ontario Division Board for 2 years. In 2001, she was honoured by the Citizens for Exceptional Public Service for Volunteers. Maureen is survived by her daughters, Jennifer, Leslie (Don), Lorna (Alex) and son Christopher (Colleen) and grandchildren, Tessa, MacKenzie, Kelton, Allyse, Taylor and Brady. She is also survived by her brother Tommy and his wife Sue of Scarborough and nieces and nephew in Manitoba. She is predeceased by her parents Thomas and Anne Jeffers, her brother John and her husband, John. Maureen was very well thought of from all her years of nursing and always met people she knew when she was out and about. Mom was an avid crafter ranging from knitting, to sewing to beading and painting. The family would like to thank Kathleen from Bayshore, our nurse, who made things as easy as possible for us to care for Mom at home. Thank you to Dr. Miller for his kindness and compassion. To St. Elizabeth's PSW for all their care for Mom. Also thank you to St. Joe's Rehab and Thunder Bay Regional hospital for doing their best for our Mom. To Dawn at Dr. Malik's office for all the help and kindness you have shown Mom and our family. And last but not least, to Dr. Malik, for his kindness, honesty, compassion and his outstanding care of our Mom. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Prince Arthur Hotel on Cumberland Street, in the Dawson Room. Cremation has taken place. The family would like to request any donation be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association in Maureen's name.

Jennifer,Leslie,Lorna and Chris I was told of your mom passing away,I wish I would of known before to come to the gathering yesterday to see you all.I have so many fond memories of your mom...THE NURSE NEXT DOOR...when we lived next door I was always asking her medical advice about the boys.Now they are 36 and 31years old how time has past.In the past few years I have had a pleasure of running into your mom when she was with Leslie always with that amazing smile.She was a special lady,and always proud of all of you....Our thoughts and prayers are with you all....DONNA,ROD,LUCAS AND RUSSELL PELTONEN

Maureen and her entire family mean the world to the Hill family. Maureen's presence was golden! I cannot ever express how much she means to us and how much we love her. But I would like to say thank you Maureen for coming into our lives and becoming a part of our family and allowing us to be a part of yours. We will miss your love, your wit, smile and wisdom. My deepest condolences to you Leslie and your family. Maureen was a breath of fresh air and so computer savvy for our group. She lit up the room and always so delightful to have with us. Thank you for the opportunity to spend time with her and get to know her. You were an awesome caregiver and she was so lucky to have you and your family n her corner.
