It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Andrew Ferguson, age 72, on Sunday March 1, 2020, with his loving wife and family by his side. Michael was a family man with a kind and gentle nature. Michael loved to cook and entertain his family and friends through food, wine, and his many stories. He was very quick witted with a sense of humour and loved reading books of all kinds. His wife of 45 years, Susan, daughter Heather (Sean), granddaughter Fiona and son Michael will miss him greatly. Also mourning his loss are brothers Gerry, Bobby, John (Veronica), sister Joan (Moe) Fenelon, and brother and sister-in-law Art and Susan MacDougall. He was predeceased by his parents Don and Veronica, brother Wayne, mother and father-in-law, Charlotte (Lottie) and John (Bud) MacDougall. He will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. Michael worked at the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital as a Registered Nurse and he retired in 2000. He was very well respected in his field by both his colleagues and those in need who he served. In retirement he enjoyed meeting his friends for the Retired Old Men Eating Out (ROMEO) club every Friday, fishing, hiking, but most of all he enjoyed playing tennis. The family members would like to extent their thanks and appreciation to the staff on 3B at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Centre for the wonderful care and compassion they showed our beloved Michael. In lieu of flowers a donation to the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday March 7, 2020 at the Airlane Hotel from 1:00 pm to 3:00pm.

My dearest Susie. When I open the Thunder Bay paper online, this is the kind of news that fills me with dread. I am shocked and saddened to learn of Mike's departure from this planet. He remains in my heart and mind as a unique, witty and beautiful human; yet another species on the verge of extinction. Love and peace to you and your family.

Deepest condolences to the Ferguson and Patterson family. I knew Mike from my time working at LPH and Sean and Heather through my time working at Canadian Blood Services. Still remember his wild rice stuffing!

Sue, Heather & Mike, Im so very sorry for your loss. I havent played tennis for awhile so have not seen Mike. He was always a welcoming smile and last time we saw him in the parking lot at the Club he showed us his sports car!! You were such kind neighbours years ago on Wentworth, even when our little boy accidentally broke your window. That same little boy went on to do his RN placement at the LPH where Mike was his kind supervisor. People like Mike make the world a gentler place. Love to you

Mike was a delight to work with. Kind in his professionalism and quick with a joke. He set everyone at ease while doing a tough job. He will be missed. May his family and friends find comfort in memories.

Mike & I met in the 60's when we spent 7 weeks together at Ipperwash Cadet Camp. Years later we renewed our friendship on the tennis court,
He always kept me laughing with his one liner quips.
My sincere sympathies

I am sending my sincere condolences to Mike's family. Mike worked with my husband Dave Hogan and partner Neil Weins many years ago. I would bump into Mike on occasion while shopping and we would stop and chat.
I'm in Florida for the winter and am sending all the best for Saturday's celebration.

My late husband Max and Michael were coworkers at the LPH. Michael was a kind soul and very good to us during Max's illness. It was an honour having known Michael. Rest In Peace. My heartfelt condolences to the families.

I had the privilege and honour of working with Mike through Confederation College. His knowledge of psychiatric issues was exceptional but most of all he was always kind and generous to the students and their patients. Sadly, I cannot attend his service because I am in Arizona.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

My memory is being a new student 1983, green behind the ears, and wanting to do well at my LPH placement supervised by Marsha, Rec dept but also feeling so insecure with working in a professional setting. The first day there I met Mike who gave a friendly greeting, a smile telling me how it will be a great learning experience, and reassurance that it will all be well.
My sincere condolences to the family
