MICHAEL "MIKE" ROBERT WELLS January 24, 1961 - October 20, 2025
The family would like to announce Mike passed away peacefully with his wife at his side, on Monday October 20, 2025 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, after a brief, but valiant battle with cancer.
Mike was born on January 24, 1961 in Port Arthur, Ontario and lived in various locations throughout Northwestern Ontario.
Mike was a man of many talents, joining the Army Reserves, working at the sawmill in White River, and truck driving long haul routes from St. Thomas and Sault Ste Marie. He joined the Ontario Public Service in Sault Ste Marie, starting with the Algoma Treatment and Remand Centre, then returned to Thunder Bay with Correctional Services and youth services which was so rewarding to Mike. He transferred to MTO as the Northwest District Manager, proudly overseeing the largest district within the MTO, where he remained until his recent illness.
Mike will always be remembered for the summers spent at his happy place fishing and watching the world go by, from his deck with Kona by his side, and the care and compassion he would show to people that were in his life.
Left to mourn Mike is his wife Alana, daughter Arian (Nicky) and partner Bill, grandchildren Reija and Dexter, son David (Breanna), grandchildren Braeden and Emilia, 1 brother and 3 sisters, and pups Kona and Kai, as well as dearest friends Dave and Tammy who where always there for Mike through the good and bad times no matter what.
Mike was predeceased by his mom and dad, Bob and Betty Wells.
Special thanks is extended to Mike's MTO family (for the many checkins and unwavering support), also all staff of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center - Cancer Care team.
If friends so wish, donations to the Northern Cancer Fund or the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society would be greatly appreciated. Mike always said he liked animals more than people.
Cremation has taken place, and a private celebration of life will take place at a later date.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Westfort Chapel, 420 West Gore Street at James.
