Michael Zappitelli Obituary
It is with great sadness that Michael Angelo Zappitelli has peacefully gone to his eternal rest with God our Father and the Angels in Heaven. With his family at his side, he passed away on August 21/08, at the age of 55 years at the Saint Vincent Hospital in Ottawa, Ont. Mike was born in Montreal, Quebec on April 28, 1953. He moved with his parents and brother to Ignace, Ont. in 1954. He attended high school in Dryden, Ont. , then attended Confederation College and earned the status of Journeyman Carpenter. In 1986 he moved to Ottawa and raised his two sons. It was there that he formed the Construction company MAZCON and managed numerous projects, one as far as Bermuda. Mike is survived by his son Wesley (Kelly) grandsons Brody, Carson, son Mitchel (Katie), parents Luigi & Maria Zappitelli, brother Frank (Marilyn), sisters Erma (Peter) & Joyce (Steve), nephews and a niece and numerous relatives in Canada, United States & Europe. Mike loved & lived life to the fullest. He was famous for his cooking and entertaining. He loved to play guitar & sing and regularly performed at musical functions. One of his hobbies was photography. Throughout the years Mike played many numerous sports such as hockey, baseball, curling, and he also enjoyed fishing. He also coached many youth sports teams and was a very devoted father in regards to encouraging his two sons to participate in countless sport activities. He rarely missed attending any of their games. Mike's interests in politics lead him to the task of once being a returning officer in the District of Kenora. Those who knew Mike will remember him for his quick whit, humour, and the fact that he was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. A wake took place at Kelly's Funeral Home on Aug. 24th at 6:00pm with family viewing. Prayers and Eulogies were held on Aug. 25th followed by a mass at Divine Infant Parish Church, which Mike had attended over the years. Cremation has taken place and Michael's ashes will be put to rest in Ottawa, Ont. Michael will be sadly missed by his loving sons, grandsons, parents, brother and sisters, relatives, many close friends and co-workers. As expression of sympathy donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice. Many thanks to all the hospital support staff, numerous doctors and all those that took care of him to make him comfortable."
