MICHELLE MAGISKAN (Migizi Ikwe/ Migizi Dodem)
Eagle Woman of the Eagle Clan
October 24, 1992 - October 4, 2025
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Michelle Selena Magiskan, a devoted daughter, mother, sister, and friend whose spirit rode strong and free across this land.
Michelle walked through life with determination, humor, and fierce love for her family, especially her two children, who were the heart of her world. Michelle was an Eagle Woman of the Eagle Clan, carrying the sacred responsibilities of vision, protection, and truth. Her spirit soared with clarity and strength, always watching over those she loved. She moved through life with the quiet power of the eagle seeing far, speaking truth, and rising above hardship with grace. She was known for her passion for her Indian motorbike, a symbol of her independence and joy. Whether riding through the homelands or down the highway, Michelle carried the wind with her, grounded in the teachings of her ancestors and the strength of her own journey. Michelle worked hard at life. She faced challenges with courage and chose education as a path to healing and success. Her efforts were not just for herself, but for her children and Anishnawbe nations proof that growth and learning are acts of love. She had a gentle heart for animals, sharing her home and spirit with her beloved fish and family dog named Minnie. Their presence brought her comfort, laughter, and companionship, and she cared for them with the same devotion she gave to those she loved.
Michelle leaves behind her two cherished children, who carry her love and teachings forward. She is also survived by family members who held her close Mother Wanda; siblings Vivian (Brendan), Steven (Jody), Joseph, Monica, Magell (Ricarda) and nieces, nephews, and extended kin who will remember her laughter, her strength, and her unwavering care. Her spirit remains with them, woven into every memory, every teaching, every act of love.
Michelle was lovingly welcomed into the spirit world by those who walked before her. She was predeceased by her father, Stephen Magiskan, whose strength and teachings continue to echo through the family. Her grandparents, Joseph Magiskan, Lottie, and Narcisse Mobishwash, now stand beside her in the spirit realm, guiding her journey with warmth and ancestral love. She is also reunited with her beloved aunts and uncles especially Diane, Sandra, Herman, Terrance, Tim and Debbie. Those who carried stories, laughter, and teachings across generations. Their names are woven into the sacred bundle of memory, and their spirits now surround her like the four directions: steady, protective, and full of love.
Michelle leaves behind a legacy of resilience, joy, and unconditional care. Her memory will live on in the stories we tell, the roads she travelled, and the love she gave so freely.
Funeral services for Michelle Magiskan will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at 10:00am in the EVEREST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 299 Waverley Street at Algoma, Thunder Bay.
Michelle will then be transported home to Aroland First Nation, where friends will be received at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church beginning on Saturday evening and continuing until the time of the Funeral Mass, which will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 at 11:00am in the Church, with Rev. Deacon Michael Robinson officiating. The interment will be held at Aroland First Nation Cemetery. All who knew and loved Michelle are welcome to attend and honor her life. A feast and gathering will follow, with space for ceremony, stories, and remembrance.
May her spirit ride on, forever embraced by the ancestors and remembered by all who knew her.
