MIKE JONASSON Obituary
MIKE JONASSON
It is with deep sadness that the children of Mike Jonasson announce his sudden and peaceful passing at the age of 63 with family by his side on Friday, Feb.6.2026 at the TBRHSC.
Mike was born on March.28.1962 in Winnipeg, MB to the proud parents of Leon and Jean Jonasson. Growing up Mike was always at the center of attention due to his bigger than life personality, smarts, and quick wit humour. While he wasn't tormenting his brother Trevor with his sister Lori, he was playing sports or spending time outdoors with his family. In his youth Mike liked hockey and baseball. He played elite hockey in Winnipeg and often found himself in the top ten in scoring. In the summer he enjoyed playing hardball. If not on the rink or ballfield he was camping and fishing with his Mom, Dad, and siblings. They often left in their truck camper exploring new areas and finding new fishing spots. Gimli, MB was his favourite spot as not only was the fishing great, but he also had a lot of family there. He enjoyed his Icelandic heritage and creating memories with his cousins. Mike also enjoyed medal detecting with his dad. At the age of 15 Mike and his family relocated to Thunder Bay, ON where he attended and graduated from Churchill High School. After high school Mike attended college receiving certification for a Surveyor. He worked as a Surveyor with the Ministry. A few years later he chose to work in the lumber industry starting with Port Arthur Lumber and finishing with Great West Timber. Mike had 3 beautiful children Corey, Lindsay (LaLa), and Jessica (Stinker). His love for sports and the outdoors encouraged his children to have the same passion he did. Mike enjoyed watching his children excel at all sports they played including, hockey, ringette, and hardball. Mike made lots of fishing trips with his dad, children, and nieces. There were many fishing trips to Lac Des Mille Lac, Whitefish, and Athelstane Lakes always leaving with full limits. Mike loved to golf and was a member of Centennial Golf Course where he golfed for many years. Mike had an exceptional bond with his daughters as they were daddy's girls. He would spend hours with Lindsay watching sports highlights, doing word jumbles, and playing TV Bingo was a must every Saturday. Mike was extremely close with his dad throughout his life sharing many special memories and a bond that couldn't be broken. His dad passed in 2007 which was a catalyst that was life changing and he ended up in dark places. Family was always important to him until his addiction pulled us apart. Mike is survived by his son Corey (Becky), daughter Lindsay (Andrew), grandchildren Jadyn, Tobias, and Tyrion, sister Lori, brother Trevor, nieces Kristi (Lee), Jenni (Matt), Kelsi (Dominic), Hayli (Austin), nephew Jordan and many relatives in Manitoba and BC. Mike is predeceased by his dad Leon, mother Jean, and daughter Jessica. Hope your dancing with Jess and soaring high together.
There will be a private Celebration of Life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to DEK Foundation or Humane Society Northwest Animal Centre
