MIKE LORTIE Obituary

December 26, 1958 - September 4, 2023
Mr. Joseph Michel Fernand Lortie, age 64 years, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 4, 2023.

Mike, as he was known by family and friends, was born in Elliot Lake Ontario on December 26, 1958. He worked over 40 years in the Mining Industry throughout Canada and the United States. Mike loved NASCAR as well as the outdoors, camping and spending time at the family Camp on Whitefish Lake. His greatest passion was Bass fishing and many happy memories were made on his boat out on the lake. Mike was hardworking and had a great sense of humour. His kindness and big heart will be missed, but the love we shared will always be cherished.

Mike will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 45 years, Sharon (Young); son Dale (Billie Jo) and grandchildren Shawn and Urijah; son Brian (Ashley) and grandchildren Braeden and Blake; sister Ginette (Phil) Cheverie and her children Daniel "Dano" and Jodie-Lynn. Numerous in-laws, cousins and other relatives also survive.

He was predeceased by his parents Berthe and Fernand and other relatives.

A Celebration of Mike's Life will be held on Tuesday, September 12th from 5pm until 7pm at the Royal Canadian Slovak Legion in the Solarium.

Should friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations made in Mike's memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Canada or Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.

Sharon and family, we will miss Mikes spontaneous visits when he was taking his boat back and forth. Denis knew Mike from work and meeting up at Whitefish was a happy coincidence. He was a genuinely nice man who always stopped to chat about work and life. Take care and know that he made a lasting impression on those who had the good fortune of meeting and getting to know him.

To Mike´s family, I was very sad to hear of your loss.
I knew Mike from work for more years and mines than I can think of and every time we came across each other again it was like we´d just seen each the week before.
He was a good man with a giant heart and a smile for everyone

I will miss seeing Mike launching his boat every weekend at Whitefish Lake and his little buddy following behind him to go on their many shared fishing adventures.
