Molly Simonsen Obituary

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts, that the family of Molly Lillian Simonsen announce her peaceful passing with family by her side after a brief illness on Sunday July 5th, 2015.

Molly was born on March 21st, 1923 in Toronto, Ontario, beloved daughter of Minnie and Louis Helper. She was the second eldest of four daughters. Molly was raised in Thunder Bay and graduated from Port Arthur Collegiate Institute. She was very athletic and was on the volleyball and basketball teams in high school and also in the P.A.C.I. choir. After high school, Molly stayed to help with the family business "Louis Helper Furs Ltd." and years later worked part time at Hurtig Furriers. It was in high school where Molly met the love of her life, Arne Simonsen, as they both were in the athletic programs. It was love at first sight for both of them and the rest is history. They were married on April 6th, 1946 and enjoyed 65 wonderful years of wedded bliss. Together they were blessed with two children Bob and Susan.

The family camp at East Loon Lake was Molly's favourite place in the world. Everyone was always welcome for delicious barbequed dinners, saunas and bonfires. Molly and Arne also enjoyed swimming, sailing, canoeing, hiking, playing horseshoes and socializing with friends and neighbours. Every day Molly and Arne would have a sauna at 4 pm, then go for a long swim to the bridge and back with the family dog Honey.

Molly's greatest passion was her family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. She enjoyed cooking for everyone, gardening, playing bridge, Tai Chi, reading and going out for dinner every Friday night with her friends from the Shriners. She had many close friends and recently enjoyed a lovely tea celebrating her 92nd birthday with many of them at her home. Molly will always be remembered for her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, sparkling eyes and her positive, kind, thoughtful and generous nature. Her personality could be compared to bubbles in a glass of champagne. Molly was always happy and looked on the bright side of life.

She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her son Bob (Sherri) and daughter Susan; sister Frances Korman (Irv), sisters-in-law Susan Simonsen and Ruth Hopping; grandchildren Sherry (Greg), Melanie (Paul), Kirsten, Jonathan (Kylie); great grandchildren Kyle, Molly, Simon and Sammy. Molly will also be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Molly was predeceased by her husband Arne Simonsen, parents Minnie and Louis Helper, parents-in-law Gustav and Ragna Simonsen, sisters Joy Pergamit and Dorothy Bierbrier, brothers-in-law Erling and Lief Simonsen, Art Hopping, Harold Pergamit and sister-in-law Kay Simonsen.

We would like to thank CCAC and VON for Molly's care while she was living at home. We are also thankful for the care given to her at both St. Joseph's Hospital and TBRHSC including all the doctors, nurses and staff. We would like to thank Molly's family physicians Dr. David Johnson and Dr. Geoff Davis, Currans Heart Centre, Dr. Czolpinski, and pharmacists Murray and Don. A special thank you to all of Molly's workers especially Monika, Laurie, Santana, Kim, Kristen and Maria.

Cremation has taken place. As per Molly's wishes, there will be no funeral. The family will be having a private celebration of Molly's life at a later date.
