MOSES SHEPPARD Obituary

SHEPPARD December 20, 1937 - October 8, 2025
Moses Charles Sheppard, second son of Richard N. & Olive née Kendell born in Lark Harbour, Newfoundland December 20, 1937 passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital on October 8, 2025.

Moses served in both The Royal Canadian Navy and The Royal Canadian Air Force from 1955 - 1966. He was honorably discharged from the RCN in 1960 and later medically released from RCAF in 1966.

He met the love of his life Sheran via pen pal while serving and married her in 1959. They celebrated 48 and a half years together until her passing in 2007.

Moses was a life long member of the NDP and participated in a number of election campaigns. He was a member of Atikokan Town Council elected in 1978 and reelected again in 1980. He resigned in 1982 and took a job as a staff representative with the United Steel Workers from which he retired in 2002.

In his retirement years he volunteered with The Thunder Bay & District Injured Workers Support Group assisting injured workers in any way he could. He also volunteered with Friends of the Thunder Bay Public Library in their used bookstore.

On his 2nd retirement, friends Bob Larocque and Liviu Vicol established the Moses C. Sheppard Scholarship Fund raising funds from the proceeds of scholarship dinners.

Left to mourn are the children Desiree Flaman of Thunder Bay, Kevin Sheppard (Gail) of Orillia, Keith Sheppard (Cindy) of Timmins, Erin Sheppard (Rob) of Thunder Bay. Grandchildren Chasity Gushulak, Joey Gushulak, Brooke Armstrong(Vern), Tyler Mullins(Bev), Melissa Gerrow(Scott), Nevin Sheppard, Brandyn Kendall, Ava Sheppard, Lola Kendall and Great Grandchildren Hunter & Jackson St. Amand, Dylan Gushulak, Natalie Moller (Eiji), Cooper and Vada Gushulak, Koen Armstrong(Juana) Great Great Grandchildren Ari Mullins, Nathaniel Gerrow, Everleigh Moller and Evangeline Armstrong. Surviving siblings are Linda Janes, George Sheppard (Katie), and Lee Sheppard (Rowena) of Newfoundland.

Moses was predeceased by his parents, siblings Clarance, Shirley, Eric (Marie), Freeman (Annie), Beaulah Youden (Harry), brother in law Lloyd Janes and sister in law Jacqueline Sheppard.

As per his wishes cremation has taken place and the ashes will now be added to those of his late wife Sheran and they will be laid to rest in Newfoundland at a later date to be determined. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm at the Oliver Road Rec Centre in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Moses insisted that any marker erected in his memory should bear the inscription "Don't Let The Bastards Grind You Down"

Those wishing to remember Moses may make donations to any charity of their choice; His preference would be to any charity that eases the pain & suffering of "little people" everywhere.

The family would also like to send a special thank you to the nurses in 2A Astrid and Sam for their care and support during his stay at TBRH. Also to Bob and Janet Paterson for their love, care and support over the years and accepting Moses into their family, he was grateful.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
