October 18, 1969 ~ October 30, 2025
With deep sorrow, we share that Murray quietly and peacefully slipped from this world to the next on October 30, 2025.
He was a doting father, beloved son, loving brother, and fun uncle. His circle also included aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and colleagues.
Murray was born in Fort Hope, Ontario, in the home of his Gogo and Choomish Waboose, delivered by traditional midwife Ellen Waboose. He was the youngest son and the second youngest of five children. Murray spent his early years in Fort Hope, on the family's traditional lands of Miminiska and Pickle Lake, before moving with his family to Sioux Lookout in 1973.There, he grew up and attended school through Grade 12. He loved hanging out with the gang of neighbourhood kids, with long summers of swimming, biking and playing games that stretched through the yards and back bushes of Meadwell Drive.
He graduated from Churchill Collegiate Institute in Thunder Bay in 1988 and cherished the year he lived with the Drake family, who treated him like a son and brother. A lifelong learner, his post-secondary journey took him to colleges and universities in Thunder Bay and Winnipeg.
Education was Murray's passion. He began his career at the Northern Nishnawbe Education Council, where he had an exceptional ability to connect with and support students as both a house counsellor and post-secondary education counsellor. His career in education also included work with various First Nations education organizations before founding Waboose Consulting in 2014. Through his work, Murray had the privilege of supporting many students over the years.
Of all his achievements, he took the greatest pride in his two children, Nicole and Matthew. He and Sandra devoted their lives to ensuring their kids had every opportunity to live, learn, and flourish.
Murray was predeceased by his brother Terry.
He is survived by his precious children, Nicole and Matthew Waboose, and their mother, Sandra Waboose. He also leaves his parents, Elijah and Felicia Waboose; siblings Rayanne Waboose, Barry Waboose, and Georgina Lentz; and his in-laws, Shelly Boudreau, Dean Dunbar, and Darren Lentz, with whom he shared a special relationship. He will also be lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
We all love him and are heartbroken. We will miss his million-dollar smile and chatty nature. He loved to laugh. He was a kind, sensitive, and generous man.
Arrangements to celebrate Murray's life will begin with visitation for friends and family on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the Everest - Westfort Funeral Chapel, 420 Gore Street West, from 6:00 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 808 Ridgeway Street East, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 3200 Oliver Road.
Please continue to keep Murray's children, parents, and family in your thoughts and prayers.
