COGHLAN
Myrtle Coghlan passed peacefully on December 15, 2025 at her home in Thunder Bay. Born "Margaret Myrtle Coghlan" in Fort William on June 12, 1933 she was known by pretty well everybody as "Myrtle" and was appreciated for her vivaciousness and kindness. When Myrtle retired from a long career in Ottawa as a civil servant, she returned to Thunder Bay and ultimately settled in at St. Joseph's Heritage. Myrtle's generous and caring personality coupled with her devotion to her faith led to an active commitment to volunteering, especially in service of the needy and ill of health. For instance, Myrtle assisted St. Andrew's Roman Catholic Church with their weekly mass at St. Joseph's Hospital Chapel; brought communion to bed-ridden hospital patients and helped out in the hospital's gift shop. Myrtle is pre-deceased by her parents Dan (D.H.) and Marion Coghlan and her siblings Patsy, Mary Therese, Dorothy and Jack. Surviving siblings are Colleen Chiasson, Joe Coghlan & Robert Coghlan in Thunder Bay; Norma Balacko in Winnipeg; Sharon Martindale in Waterloo and Sam Coghlan in Harrington. As you would expect with such a large family there remain a number of nieces and nephews (as well as too many of this generation already deceased). Myrtle wrote wonderful letters. She was a loving sister and auntie who already is missed. As per her wishes, Myrtle's remains have been cremated. A funeral will be held sometime in the spring of 2026. Donations in honour of Myrtle Coghlan can be made to St. Andrew's R.C. Church Building Fund and/or St. Joseph's Foundation of Thunder Bay.
