Hello & I guess goodbye!
When my son, Robin, suggested I write my own obituary, I decided to. I was filled with love, and this would certainly be my last words to all my much-loved family and friends. I truly feel like my heart opened and millions of beautiful loving butterflies burst out into the air. This is the perfect thing that I have been so blessed to be able to do. I may be gone but I am ready and would just love to tell everyone who knows me a bit of my life story. If you did not know, I have passed away from stage 4 pancreatic cancer, which is known as quiet cancer. You do not know it is there until it is too late. You can be healthy and suddenly you are on a time limit…nothing - no cure just minimal time!
I would like to start with a big THANK YOU for all the excellent care I have been receiving from so many doctors, nurses, and services from St. Elizabeth Home Care…far too many people to mention; apart from Erica and Marlene (part of the Hospice team) who have truly made me feel like a friend and not just a sick old lady. As for my home support, there is not enough love and appreciation in the entire world for what my children and grandchildren are doing for me. They are truly my angels sent from Heaven to look after me until the end.
I will be leaving behind so many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. I am survived by my oldest son, Robin, my son Doug and my grandson Jacob, Doug's wife and two daughters as well as two additional grandchildren, my daughter Kim (David), grandchildren Corey (Brittany) and great-grandchildren Tristan and Taryn & granddaughter Natasha. Last but no means least my youngest daughter, Angel (Trevor) and grandchildren Rebeka and Renato. I also leave behind my dear friend Anne Oktaba and Cousin Margie O'Neill who have been like sisters to me for so many years.
I am also survived by my nephew Leslie (Barb) Tabachak and their 5 children (1 great nephew and 4 great nieces).
I also have one remaining sister-in-law, Evelyn Salatino (Louis - deceased). We are the last two of the original Salatino family of 4 boys and 4 girls…we sure were part of a big get together.
I am predeceased by my husband whom I was married to for 58 years, Alfred, who passed away in 2018; but I never felt alone. I was always surrounded by my children to the very end. I have also been predeceased by my granddaughter, Sebrina, my mom, Mary, drowned at the age of 32 on a ship when I was just 10, my father, Joe, passed in 1970 the day Angel was born, my brother, Victor passed in 1975.
I have lived an exceptionally good life. My achievements, my family, and my job at the LPH from 1965 -1992, as a Food Service Supervisor, have all brought me joy and happiness. My favorite thing in life was cooking for my family every Wednesday. It was the one day of the week that everyone was together, and the house was full of life again. During Covid and until the end, we also enjoyed playing Hagi Bingo on Saturdays; just another way to get together and enjoy my family.
I will finish off for now, praying you all live life with love to its fullest. Remember even though you may think I am gone, I will always be around…a feather floating, a tap on your shoulder, a fluttering butterfly…it is me saying hello!
Love Myrtle
Ps: It is also my request that there be no service in my honor other than a private family internment later for both Alfie and myself.
